Wanted: Faster Acceleration

I just bought a 2004 RX-8 with an automatic transmission. The previous owner installed a K&N air intake and a GReddy exhaust system.

I absolutely love this car! But the factory settings of the automatic transmission rob the car of power/acceleration. The gears change too quickly in full automatic mode.

Is there any way to adjust this or any other way to improve the acceleration in full automatic mode?

Not really. All you can do with what you have is to go into paddle shift mode and hold each gear until red line.

You're not going to win many drag races with this car. Find a windy road if you want to have fun.

Its not "automatic transmission robbing the power" , its more like the engine you got has been crippled with only 4 ports (instead of 6 ports on all MTs, and 06 or later ATs)

nothing much u can do, I think you should just sell it and get a MT or 06 or later AT.

Pin the accelerator to the floor. That should force the car closer to redline before shifting.

The real thing thats robbing power from you is the automatic transmission itself. Instead of a clutch, it has a torque converter, which is basicly 2 propellers in a sealed case full of fluid. The propeller attached to the motor spins, sloshing the fluid around and causing the other propeller attached to your transmission to turn. As you can imagine, you loose significant amounts of energy with such a system.

Theres not much you can do about it aside from not buying an automatic, but you might want to check the automatic section of the forums. I believe that there are a couple tricks you can do to make it slightly better.
