How hardy are the stock HIDs?

I have an opportunity to pick up a pair of D2S bulbs for backup for cheap. But like to know if it is worth doing. Has anyone had their HIDs burned out immaturely?

Based on my experience (with aftermarket xenon kits), the ballasts tend to conk out way before the bulbs do. In fact, I've never had any HID bulbs go bad on me. So, I'd worry about the ballasts instead...

If you got money burning a hole in your pocket or they're really, really cheap (say, $50/pair?), I'd say go for it.

The stock equipment will most likely last for the life of the vehicle, both bulbs and ballasts. I wouldn't worry about buying any spares.

i've had tons of aftermarket HID kits before on my past cars and they all have problems eventually. I haven't heard many people complain or have problems with stock HID stuff. I'm pretty sure that your bulbs will last quite a while longer. why spend the money when there is no need now?
