I will be installing the Racing Beat oil cooler & AC condenser screens on a 06 AT Sport this weekend. I have seen and read the DIY sticky by UnstoppableDrew on this. My question is this. When I look up into the area where the A/C condenser is I see a small (about six inches tall) screen already there that looks like it might perform the same function as the Racing Beat's screen. I bought the car used and from what I have gathered from the maintenance files that I have seen I doubt the previous owner was into doing these kind of mods. Can anyone tell if they have seen this smaller screen on their 8 or if they know anything about it? Thanks

You have the "Mazda" version of the condenser screen; came out on '06 models. The RB screen would be an improvement IMO.

 

I am looking to move forward with the Racing Beat screen. Do you know how hard it would be to remove or if it can be? Thanks

 

Can't be too difficult, but why not leave it there and just add the oil cooler screens. The OEM screen is adequate IMHO.

 

I have already paid for and received the RB screens. As far as leaving it there, it looks like the OEM version will interfere with the install of the RB model (see pic in op). As for the OEM being adequate... not going by the dings in non-protected area.

 

Yeah, you probably can't and wouldn't want two. Would impede airflow I'd think even if you could get both on.

 

I think he meant to *leave the OE* screen there dont install anything else. There is not enough room for 2 screens anyway (the bolts arent long enough).

I have a 05 so I dont have that screen, but replace it with RB screen will give you better protection. and its not hard to do it, You just have to Jack ur car up, take the undertray and front bumper away, and work it slowly

I did it myself, maybe an hour something of time? that was my first time so ... if u want me to do it again it will be a lot less time.

 

I already planned on removing the front bumper to install OEM fogs this weekend. The RB guards were other things that I wanted to do while I had the bumper off. Question; Do I have to jack up the car to install the RB guards?

 

your picture is the radiator, not the oil cooler lines.

 

Where in this thread have I mentioned oil cooler lines? From everything that I have read including the DIY sticky by UnstoppableDrew on this what I am looking at here is the AC condenser. Please let me know if I am that far off base in what I am seeing.

 

No need to jack up the car when installing the condenser or oil cooler screens; just remove the bumper. I didn't have the "Mazda" version but I doubt it would be very hard to remove (based on the pic you have posted).

 

when i took off my bumper to put on the hymee screens i did it with the car flat on the driveway. no need to jack it up as long as you have a short enough screw driver to use on the bottom lip.
