I am getting snowed on as I write this. Well, not literally, but it's coming down out there. Yikes.

I have reviewed the snow tire threads, but I seem to find very little testimony of which wheel/snow tire packages (from Tire Rack or elsewhere) for sure fit over the brakes and work well.

Can anybody report on packages that you already have on your car and with which you are happy?

I just picked up 17" rims and Pirelli snows P245/45HR17 W210.I paid $1200 for the setup. They switched over the pressure sensors and no problems.

Not to pick on you, but... for what it's worth, it's pretty unusual to go 2 widths wider than the OEM size for winter tires. The standard recommendation (from Tire Rack and, well, everyone) is to go narrower with winter tires, for better traction on snow/ice.

Gord, I realize that I made a big mistake. Will these tires work at all for me. The $%^@# salesman said they woule be fine. Will these fatties get me through winter or do I have to get narrower tires?? I am prepared for the worst, I'm an idiot,oh well. I can only laugh at myself,ouch! Picck on me all you want, I deserve it.

 

Not the optimal set-up but you are still susbtantially better off with the tires you bought than the stock tires, even though they are wider. I am sure Gordon will agree.

iamcanadian is right, while the wide winter tires aren't ideal, they're far better than nothing (which is what the OEM summer tires are on snow). I know you were mislead by your tire store, my comment was more to others reading this so that they could consider the factors before choosing. The 245 size isn't too wide for the car, several people have put wider summer tires on, so they're Ok that way.

I just installed my 17 inch Kazera wheels and Dunlop M3's from the tirerack without a problem

I must say, the M3's feel very sporty :p
