Exclamation Winter tires

I am considering the Hankook Icebears, the Dunlop Graspics and the Nokian winter tire. I am going to use my stock rims as winter rims, and go with a 225/40/18 tire. Any suggestions as the best place to get either in Canada or the US?

Thanks in advance people!

Are you going to mount and dismount your summer/winter tires off the rims each year?

If you have the space you are way better off going to

www.tirerack.com and ordering a set of winters, mounted and balanced with rims.

Go down to 17inch and 215 and your tires + rims mounted and balanced will be cheaper then 18inch tires, and since the tire is thinner, its actually better in the snow.

I've ordered a few sets from tirerack and have never had a problem, they even tell you the cost of shipping including duties ect in advance.

Goodluck.

I second that! Same thing I did, with Dunlop Graspics. Happy with those tires.

17" 215 with Steelies from Fountain Tire. Costed between $1250-$1500 I think.

You can get brand new dunlop m3s with RIMs balanced and shipped to your home for about the same price as what you are asking for yours.

I just went thru this cost benefit analysis, and I absolutely second this opinion. Go down to 17's and the 215's, I've driven this spec in 5 inches of snow.

I did the same - went to a "-1" size - 225/50R17.
Bought the new-this-year Yokohama Wdrive winter tire.
The tires are V speed rated. But even with the slightly taller side wall and lower speed rating - I seem to have lost very little in handling and control on dry pavement and gained a lot on cold, wet or slushy roads. So far, not too bad in the little bit of snow we've had either.
Was going to get black steel wheels at about $90 each, but my tire guy got me some nice alloys for about $140 each. So I figured $200 over a few years - might as well have some good looking wheels for the winter.

Wish I seen this a month ago.
I'd like some 17" steel wheels. I have the Dunlops and I think they're great.
