I have a pair of Tein S-Tech's about to trade them for a set of Swift Sport Springs, good idea?

I already know the drop heights, the tein s-techs have the same spring rate in the front but better in the rear, does this mean they are stiffer? I'm looking more on the performance side. I realize that a complete coil-over kit would be better but I don't have the money for that.

Tein S-Tech
F - Drop 1.5" (Spring Rate 207lbs)
R - Drop .7" (Spring Rate 145lbs)

Swift Sport
F - Drop .8" (Spring Rate 207lbs)
R - Drop .8" (Spring Rate 129lbs)

 

Comparing rates and advertised (lies) drop alone won't answer your question. The two springs have different designs using different materials.

 

I just want to handle the best...I've heard Swift is the way to go. I could either keep my s-techs or trade straight up for the swift's.

I did.... when I purchased Swift springs for my WRX wagon
Supposedly, Swift gets by using less coils due to the superior composition of their spring... blah blah blah- sag after 3 months of use.

 

Spring rates, type of spring (progressive vs linear) and drop are the most important things to consider. The only other thing I'd worry about is spring diameter if I wanted large tires. Otherwise there is nothing special about Tein's and I wouldn't buy Tein springs if handling was what I was after. All of them are too soft and too low.

 

well, i ve heard the review from some about springs themselves on 8s, basically, there is not some obvious improvement that you can tell from how much height it drops down. I might be wrong. but what i am saying is that dropping too much is not always good for cars. i think 8'is good enough.

 

Did you mean you think the rx8 is good enough as it is? Or 0.8" is good enough?

To each their own but I don't think 0.8" is enough. I don't even think 1.2" (for the eibach's) is low enough but definitely better than stock.

 

I think it has a pretty good ride height stock, if you have a GT w/ the apperence package, it looks nice. I just think it's too nice of a car to have rubbing and scraping around the streets. Just my opinion! I think it also handles quite well stock, probably the best feeling chasis out of any car I've ever driven. Never got behind the wheel of a GT2 or F430 haha.

 

I recently just got the Swift springs, and have had them for about a week now. Let me say that the springs pretty much destroy body roll. I don't know what other spring setups feel like in our 8's so my opinion should probably be voided...

The drop really isn't that much at all, until I compressed the springs and tightened the A-arm. About 2 fingers all around...

 

I have had Tein S for bout 9,000 miles and there is no rubbing (im only on 18's though), no worn out shocks and the ride does not appear too low in my eyes. Is all personal preference. Appearance wise i would actually prefer the rear to be a bit lower but im satisfied with them.

 

What shocks are you using your swift springs with?

How's the ride quality?

Have you tried any autocross or track use? I see you mentioned reduced body roll.
