Thanks

Good suggestion... I'll do that. I read somewhere that this was standard on some newer models, which in that case the Mazda dealers should carry it but when I was in on Wednesday they didn't know anything about it?

Try http://www.evo-r.net/product/RX-8/CFS/CF_REAR.htm
This is a CF one. They also have a unpainted fiberglass piece.

I have the CF one from evo-r.net.
the one burnsy is talking about in the picture is much thinner than the evo-r.net one and does not go over the corner of the trunk, it just sits on the top cooner "lip". I've seen it in person installed on someone else's car and it's barely as wide as a thumb.

I have the Evo-R one on my car. Bought it from their never-ending "group buy" on this forum.
Looks and fit great. I went with the fibreglass and just had my favourite body shop paint it to match.

Excellent taste Burnsy!

Don't get the Evo-r one....the one you want and in that pic you attached is the JDM one: http://www.japanparts.com/db/partsli...ey=091-029-001

This comes as standard on euro models due to the lower drag coeffiecient.

You can order it from japanparts.com, they are an official vendor on this forum, so you can PM Graham if you like (https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=104549)

They can be purchased pre-painted or not.

I bought mine last month pre-painted and I love it. No drilling needed or anything like that.

These pics were taken with my phone so quality is not ideal

Thanks for the info Goes. So the spoiler is just held on by 3M doublesided tape? Isn't that a tad bit flimsy?

Thanks! That one is a little bigger that the other one I ws looking at but it looks really nice on the car.

A member of our BCRX8 club showed me this one as well on Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2004-...em280121157970

It comes unpainted but its a nice one as well.

Well now at least I have some options! I kind of like the fact that the one you highlighted comes painted already.

It actually comes with 3 plastic studs that would be used if you intended to install with drilling.

But if you don't want to drill you can file off those plastic pegs. Two sides of the length of the spoiler are shipped with the tape, but I bought more 3M tape at canadian tire and lined the whole thing with the tape, and it is rock solid. I've had it on well over a month now and have washed the car multiple times and it doesn't budge and remains flush. That 3M is strong stuff

So to answer your question, no it's not flimsy at all. Obviously if it was a big gaudy wing or something heavy the tape would not work, but the JDM spoiler is very low profile and light so the tape more will more than suffice.

That one on ebay I would not go near. It's not specifically made for the rx8. The rx8 has very curved trunk when compared to the TL or the 3 series, which are practically straight.

If you can take a look at that one in person then by all means consider it but it is not made specifically for the 8 like the evo-r or the JDM one.

Actually I've seen it installed on one of our club members 8 and the curve looked absolutely smooth. It seems to look as close to OEM as you'll get if you install it right. It's quite neat and tidy, but I do prefer the evo-r.net lip spoiler better.

As far as the 3M tape used to attach these lip type spoilers is concerned, no it is not too flimsy for this application. Anyone who knows much about body kits knows that 3M tape is more than strong enough especially for something as small, thin, and light as a lip spoiler. When set and dry you can pull pretty hard and even pry with tools and they don't budge much at all unless you apply some kind of solvent to desolve the sticking agent. Drilling would definately be overkill, kind of like drilling into your dash to attach your liquid air freshener.
