Wanted: RX-8 for product testing....

Hey Everyone,

I'm putting this post out here to see if anyone would be interested in helping us develop some new products for the RX-8's.

Now I'm not talking about small things like strut tower bars or anything like that. What we are mostly interested in, is finding someone who is wanting to turbo or supercharge their 8.

This would be a winter project, so you would get free indoor heated storage for your car while we work on it.

Again we are looking for someone who is prepared to spend the $10-12K on their car to get one of these aftermarket turbo/supercharger kits installed....if you are considering it, then drop us a line as we have a much better option availible for you at a reasonable cost for letting us use your car.

Send us an email to dan@rpmmotorsports.ca or joe@rpmmotorsports.ca or just call us at the shop 519-513-0350 and leave a message.

Thanks!

Joe

Please build an SC setup...I much prefer the linear feel and the installation ease (not to mention easier to tune) of a supercharger over a turbo...not to mention as Canadians, those of us who have to deal with winter, I don't like the placement of where the turbo is, as the exhaust manifold is quite close to the bottom of the engine bay...

No sorry, we aren't looking to do a supercharger setup. Also I'm not really sure what you mean by the placement of the header?? No matter how you cut it, thats where the exhaust ports are on a Rotary engine.....the exhaust manifold has to be at the bottem of the engine bay.

Tempting. I was planning to start saving my pennies and looking at the MazSport Stage 1 in about a year or so. Be even better to get it from somebody Canadian.
What are you planning to build for? A bit more power for daily driving, big power for drag racing, something for track days etc?

I don't do much track-driving with my 8 anymore since I bought the RX-7, but I was interested in the MazSport kit because it seemed to be built with the idea of track use in mind.

BTW, car is an original-batch 04 w/44,000km that gets stored winters anyway.

I am interested in hearing more details about the kit, but unfortunately my 8 is my daily driver. Once you have finished the development I am very interested in supporting a local development.

The base kit will give you easily 300whp and as reliable as the day it left the dealer. It could be used for daily driving, autocross, track days, grocery shopping whatever you want.
Just a hint, this "kit" will not be using the Renisis engine at all. The Renisis should never have even been considered to be turbo'ed. Its not designed properly at all for FI. Anyone turbo'ing their Renisis is asking for trouble, if not right away, they will eventually.
As you can probably already tell, I'm not a big fan of the Renisis lol.

Well heres what we are proposing:

Swapping out the Renisis with an older Cosmo 13B-RE (not the 3rd gen engine). We import these engines from Japan from wrecked Maszda Cosmos.

Your probably thinking...oh great swap out my perfectly good 13B for an old used 13B from Japan. Well your right :D But we would FULLY rebuild these engines first.
Complete disassembly, clean, inspection, and then rebuild with New Mazda OEM parts (seals, gaskets, springs ect)

Now heres where you the customer have a ton of options.

While disassmbled we can port the engine for more power, we can paint the engine to match your car, we could put a great big single turbo kit on it...really the options are endless with the older 13B.

From as mild as a stock port 13B-RE with stock twin turbo's producing a measly 300 whp to your fully ported single turbo 700whp Monster.

Each "kit" would be custom to what the customer wants for their car. Remember these motors came from the factory with twin turbos and are designed to be turbocharged. There are many engines like these with well over 200,000kms on them.

So in my opinion...if your looking to turbo your RX-8, swapping out the engine is the only logical option.
Obviously each setup being custom made for the customer will come with a different price tag which we are still working out.

Thats why we are looking for a project car for over the winter months to do this swap to, so we can get an idea of the time involved in each project ect...

Many of you have never seen some of our work so I'll post a couple pics I'm really proud of:

Heres a customers Turbo 2nd gen RX-7 we installed a Haltech, FMIC with polished alumunim piping

Here is our Racecar that I never have time to work on haha....

Here is a Convertable Non turbo RX-7 we completely restored for a customer is Winnipeg (Everything was either polished or powder coated)
