problem with my 05 rx8 i just purchased

Ok since im new to the rotory motor i have no clue what to search for. So please don't flame me. When I accelerate from about 5k-9k rpm it seems like the car is losing power up top. Is this normal, is something wrong. I have search on engine problems on here and read about the pinging sounds a loss of power on some cars but im not getting anything like that, just seems like the motor is breaking down @ higher rpm's. Any help or a point in the right direction will help and thanks in advance.

+1 if you still have a warranty definitely take it to them to check it out.

The two common problems are clogged Cats and bad ignition coils. There are TSBs for both. The will need to pull the cat. and visually inspect to see if the rear element is melted. The OBDII port check will not show any problem with this so make sure they perform a visual inspection.

If that doesn't solve it next thing is compression check...

How severe is the power loss?

Peak torque is at 5500 rpms. It doesn't die after that, but it will drop off. The torque curve is what you feel, not the horsepower curve, so this may be normal.

Ok took my 8 to the dealer, they said it already had the updates and fixes needed including replacing the clogged car. Now that I have drove it more, it kinda studders a bit in second gear when going wot. I read someone else with this problem in second gear. Just need to see if I can find it. Also how hot should this motor be getting. I tried to jumpstart a friend and they damn jumper cables after 10 minutes burned my hands. Is this normal?
