I know that they were available for only 1 year (04), but do we know how many were made?

I'd like to know for statistical and bragging reasons

Red is for lovers ... or people bleeding to death. Depends on the circumstance.

 

apparently the color yellow is for people that are outgoing and very secure with themselves.

that also applies to all the warm colors.

I'm rather curious still.

 

The production run of yellow 8's was a mistake at the factory. Someone forgot to add certain pigments to the paint when they were supposedly painting red 8's. Instead of spending the money on rework or simply scrapping them, they were quick on their feet and threw a marketing blitz together. Sold the whole run and took steps that insured the pigments would always be correct from then on.

 

so no one has a real answer?

 

i've always told everyone that only 500 Yellow's were made, so maybe if we all believe it, it will come true

 

Being part of the Lightning Yellow brigade, I have to say:

1) VERY FEW - it's a rare day you see a yellow RX-8.
2) Whoever said Yellow is for cowards must be driving a red car!

Ain't no better color for this car ... and I still to this day can't believe they substituted "Rental Car White" for Lightning Yellow.

 

When it comes to sports car , I think yellow is the way to go . It just stands out.

I know for a fact there are well more than 500 yellow Rx-8's. Here's my logic (in NO way is this science or fact) My old 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 S/R edition was limited edition to 2000 made. 1000 were painted yellow, 500 red and 500 black. They split that right down the center in distribution between here and canada so for a fact there are only 500 yellow escort ZX2 S/R editions in the states (on the S/R ZX2's were painted yellow, red and black were common colors though). And I have only seen ONE of those other than my own in person. Whereas the yellow Rx8's I've seen a few per locale I've been in (southeastern VA, Jacksonville NC, Northern VA/DC, Atlanta GA, and a few others). Again, that's no stated fact or anything, but I've heard way more of my friends tell me "they saw my car" since I've gotten my Rex than I did with my Ford. Hope that makes sense.

Side note - I'm really interested in the official answer myself. I don't see why Mazda wouldn't release these numbers if we just asked.

 

How many Shinka's were made? In retrospect I think I was ripped off on my car because it says "Shinka"

When I bring up autotrader and look for RX-8s I get a ton of yellow ones. Must just be the area.

 

If yellow was still available I would of bought it instead of Red.

It just suits the car!

 

there were quite a few yellows made. It has to be several thousand at a minimum, because my local dealer lots had a bunch, and I see a bunch on the road.

 

luckily i seem to be the only yellow rx-8 in tennessee so i always say there's only 500 of them made

To this date, I have not seen ONE yellow 8 in-person; only photos. Scads of every other color and a few custom paint jobs, but not one yellow.

Is that a real production total, Rems, or am I not getting a joke? (Wouldn't be the first time...)
