build date != model year.

The RX-8 was a 2004 model, but they were physically built in 2003 and 2004.

I care more about how many other yellows I see around my area than how many that are actually out there. And to give you an example, this year I've only seen only seen another yellow 8 on the road twice. Two sightings of someone driving a car that looks as good as mine over the course of 7 months. I don't think it can get better than this. Well...a yellow FD would be nice too.

Some of you think Nordic Greens are rare. I disagree. I see a NG 2, 4 or 6 times each day! Okay, okay. It's mine that I see. Only seen 1 other NG in a 50 mile radius of here. I've seen two different LY's here. So do a little math. (2 LY seen)/(LY made for 1 model yr) = 2. (NG seen)/(NG made for 2 model years) = 1. Does that make mine more rare?!? If LY's had been made for 2 yrs, then I should have seen 4.

I really would like to know that my car is 1 of 1500, or 1 of 3598 (whatever) made that year with my color and my options. I can tell you that with a little research, anyone can find out that their 1960's american musclecar is 1 of XXXX. Car companies could do that back then, without even having computers!!! Why not now??? Hell, if I had ALL the numbers, I could do a simple Excel spreadsheet telling anyone anythng they wanted to know? WHY CAN'T MAZDA!!!

There was no '03 model year. They started delivering the '04s in the summer of '03, but they were '04 model year cars. Lightning Yellow was available for the full run of the '04 model year.

True 'nuff. I assumed that since the guy asking the question was from Tennessee, he was asking for US production numbers.

I got a BS answer from Mazda here it is

"Hello Nick!

Thank you for contacting Mazda. I appreciate the opportunity to respond to you.

In regards to your inquiry, Mazda does not have the number since it was not a limited production vehicle.

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda.

Regards,

Rosa A.

the mazda response sounded like bs, but it's kinda true, it wasn't a limited production color like the cym on the fd. cym was specifically a run of 350; as far as i know, nobody was turned down from ordering lightning yellow because it exceeded the run, so it's just however ly's customers and dealers ordered. mazda, of course, has records of this somewhere, but they're not gonna go dig it up just for us

It's not lies. It's laziness. They would have to count how many were sold of that particular color, which would mean hitting the button on Rudy the Rud-i-vac and having him tell them. Sounds too much like work to them.

yes I drive mine for fun, so I don't drive it till summer only.
but when I do every one just want to see it up close.
I get more looks than when I drive my BMW or my bens.
I am having the engine replace after 10000 mil. thanks mazda. but know I think it"s time to sell soon and my family is getting bigger.
This is the most fun I could have driving a car and I am alway waiting for summer.

Sorry for reviving such an old thread, but I thought this was interesting and curious what you guys think. I was on autotrader.com checking out the going rate for our cars and came across this 2004 LY which claims it was the first unit ever produced in this color and that only 670 were made. Check it out...

That's interesting. Doesn't say GT, says fully loaded but no sunroof? Says cd player, wouldn't he specify Bose cd changer? Wouldn't the first of any type be fully loaded?
Chrome wheels are nice tho.

I've seen plenty of lightning yellow RX-8s around my area. What I have yet to see is another RX-8 with my color.

What color? Mine's yellow. I'm in K.C.
I don't see many 8's at all. Red & Blue are the only one's I 've seen, but I really didn't take notice till I got it last summer.

Black Cherry Mica for the Shinka models in 2005. I believe 2150 black cherries were supposed to be produced, but only 1357 made the cut.

Sounds like BS trying to justify an absurd asking price.

I just re-read that ad.
Telescope steering wheel?
I was not aware these were available. Is this true?
Could I have one and not know it?
If so, then I'm a Dumb-a**.

I suspect that was a click box for creating the ad and covered tilt and/or telescoping wheel.

It looks like a loaded Sports Package with the appearance package, rear spoiler and maybe, rotary accents. It also looks like he has a billet grill on there.

I've never seen a number on production of a standard color, just the special editions here and abroad. That's an early pick up date, so he may know somebody at corporate, though.
