Angry Driver Seat Aches 'n Pains!

Anyone having problems with the foam of their drivers seat becoming so flattened the seat is painful to sit on?? For the past couple of months my left thigh starts really hurting about 20 mins into a drive - since my daily commute is roughly 90 minutes in and 60 mins back I'm rapidly becoming a sittiong piule of moans and groans! Last night was really painful!

The seat and sides of my seat are pretty flattened (I have almost 90,000 on my 04) so I am wondering if it is just my weight (180#) or is it the foam itself that is inferior?

Anyone have any similar problems??

i've driven 700 miles in a single trip about 6 times in the car and 300 mile trips about 20 times in the car with no complaints.

I'm not trying to be mean or offensive with this question, but are you a big guy? (>250lbs) because i've heard that a number of them have had issues with the hard plastic on the left side becoming uncomfortable

edit: just read the rest of your post nm....90k miles sounds like you are just getting thin on materials.

I'm 6.11/2 (my wife loves that half-inch!!) and 180 pounds.

The seat is really beginning to bug me.

so i guess the consensus is that aches and pains are the price of driving a sports car...
im sure that a benz is much more confortable, but then you have a car that handles like a boat

Except I've been driving this car since July 2003 and only now is the seat painful to be in! Hence my wondering if anyone else was experiencing seat foam failure.

Yeah same problem here. I feel like circulation is being cut at my thigh. This is my number one complaint about the car. They can keep the power, I just want nice seats. (I'm 5' 10 160)

That's not an excuse for crappy seats. Go sit in any evo. Those seats are frickin awesome.

He's six one and a half. He just has a hard time using the space bar!

I'm 6'2" and fit in the 8 with no problem.

Has anyone tried replacing the foam or increasing the bolsters somehow? I wouldn't mind having a better base cushion and side better bolstering on the side. Maybe one of those things where you pump air like on the Elise?

Well, just recently, I developed back pains while driving and I don't know why. I wish our car had an adjustable lumbar support.

i've driven my '04 for countless hours and i, too, have no complaints. As long as the lower back thing is up? (idk if you know what i'm talking about, straightens the lower back a bit) i'm good.

Yes I have added to the bolsters to help with staying put esp on track. I've always used a CG-Lock, but still felt uncomfortable moving around so much. I took the seat bottom apart and added a gel-wristrest to both side support areas. This wristrest could be shaped and was tapered at one end. I got them from Staples.

That helps and it makes sitting in the seat more of a pocket feel, definitely more secure. Still and in addition, I'm using a grip material on the seatback.

I'm pretty happy with the result. I can concentrate on driving much more.

Do you have the leather seats? For some reason Mazda thought that people that prefer cloth seats don't have a lumbar region.

Seats don't look much different, perhaps how it looks a bit overstuffed or full at the bolster. The side bolsters normally collapse under pressure from your leg...now that is Ssignificantly harder and doesn't collapse easily, rather holds it's shape and your leg better.

The seat back stuff is really the best, you simply become almost 'Velcroed' to it!

Perhaps Neddie just has no gluteus maximus? I'm 5'-11", 190 lbs. and find the RX-8 seats to be among the most comfortable I've ever sat on. No problems at all. When I first brought it home, however, it did take me a couple of weeks to get the seat adjustments dialed-in just right; and I have no *** to speak of, myself.
