Car will not start - think it is the starter ?
For the last 4 wks when I start the car, the alternator light comes on and goes off as soon as I am driving foward. there has been no starting problems like a weak battery and the starter has caught each time and not slipped.
I was at Mazda last week and asked them to check out why my alternator light keeps coming on - their response was they checked everything out and could not find anything wrong. I have been driving 2 wks since then with the alternator light coming on. I drove the car yesterday with no other problems.
This morning I went to start the car and nothing - it would not turn over. The dash lights come on and the radio and the headlights are on strong but not 1 click.
I tried to jump to my wifes car and still not 1 click.
What do you think ?
My other option is to have Mazda flat bed me in and expect to get raped.

Try and wire 12v straight to the starter...that will tell you if it works......if not. I'ts the starter
Could be the clutch switch....try neutral....
Other wiring problems possible as well...from the ign switch...to the starter solenoid etc.
Check all the fuses and relays....

If the car is still under warranty, call Mazda roadside service (the 800 number on the window sticker) and have it taken to a dealer for the service bulletin work that deals with hard or no start problem. If you have not had that work done, you will get upgraded battery and starter and maybe a couple of new spark plugs.
In the meantime, check for a bad ground or loose battery cable. If you find such a problem, charge the battery and try starting the car.

I spoke to Mazda tech today - Hank from Mazda - Wayne, he has worked on my car many times before and is the resident RX8 tech.
As I suspected, the starter was bad and had to be replaced - he said there was a lot of corrosion around terminials and body. $550 later - He told me that was about the 4th starter he has replaced on an 8.
