Rofl, the test was done on a V8 Camaro, and the before and after dyno was done with EGR deletion, TB porting, and this. Hahahaha, YAY for marketing!

yup another of those little mods you can do for practically nothing .
Not saying it does much - just that it all helps if you are looking for more performance.
Mazda does this to stop throttle icing up in sub zero climates. If you live in a temperate area like I do - absolutely no need for it.

 

yea thats why ive never heard of it, its snowing here right now does that mean its subzero here

 

just buy the brass barb for $3 at home depot like the rest of us. You can get fancy and get rubber caps for the throttle body itself if you want to keep stuff from getting in, that's another $1-2.

I recommend getting hose clamps too, so add another $2 to the cost. Now you have a more complete kit than the one on ebay and it cost you less.

 

or you can just shove a screw in the hose to stop the flow & leave the stock hoses on like I did - for nothing

 

If your ambient temps in summer never get over around 60F this mod will be a waste of time. If it gets really hot in summer & really cold in winter you could install a on/off valve in the line . Oh & I pity your sorry *** for living in such a place

 

the throttle body is typically heated up to 170-210 degrees, so running your intake air through that just before it goes into the engine isn't so great..

I personally can't tell if it helps or not, but I can't see how it would hurt.

 

Every little bit of colder air helps :D

There is a difference. The MAF operates based on smooth airflow. The throttle body on the other hand, doesn't need to be heated.

if the engine has not heat soaked and the intake is still cool, the air in the intake will not be heated...

one heat soak on the motor, imho all bets are off...

from what i remember, it was said that mazda (as well as other car companies) did this to keep ice crystals from forming in the TB. unless you live in a cold area, i dont see how this mod will damage anything. then again, an 8 hp gain is just horse ****.

I did this after I found out about it. Went to Checker, picked up some pre-heater hose, brass fitting, and clamps, everything under $11, took all but 15 minuets (only because you have to remove the whole intake). It's till cool here (around 65 degrees) so when it hits 116 in the summer I'll let everyone know if I feel any more power, but I'm not holding my breath.

I have a stupid question. Won't the tb get hot anyway? Won't the heat from the motor soak into it? I am not a mechanic nor a tuner. Just curious. Has anyone dyno'd before and after? Well, other than some idoit that is trying to sell a hose and a couple of fittings?

 

I'm running liquid nitrogen through mine, and I got a worm hole to open up!

^with the air flow staying closer to ambient farther into the intake, it has to be better. I'll data log mine when I get back into town next month.
