Hey guys, I'm new to most of this stuff on here, so pardon my ignorance. Here's my issue...

Every now and then I'll hear a loud pop coming from under my car. At that point, driving over 5.5K RPM, the exhaust will be ALOT louder than normal (in any gear). As well as that happening, the car seems to idle rough after that pop. It almost sounds like the pop is coming from my cat., but I could be wrong (like I said, new to this stuff.)

Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hm, you wouldn't happen to be talking about a backfire would you?

A "backfire", as the term is commonly mis-used, is actually an explosion of unburned fuel/air in the exhaust system, sometimes in the catalytic converter. So, if your cat was damaged by a backfire, it could cause idle problems and a change in the exhaust note.

Take it in to a dealer and have it checked out. Also, if you have not had the 4206F recall done, do it now. Be forewarned however, with aftermarket intake and exhaust, some dealers point to that as the cause of any problem and may refuse to do any troubleshooting. Don't be surprised if you get that response at the dealer. Best to at least replace the OEM intake before taking it in.
