Question Experiences in Winter?!?!

We had our first real snow fall today and the experience was not a very good one. I know someone will probably look at this post and ask what I expected... but regardless I'm still wondering about some winter options. I only have my car on lease for another 9 months (3 or 4 months of which will be probably be winter), so I dont really want to go spend a whole lot on tires if I can get away wihtout them. I plan on putting sand bags in the trunk as I heard this helps a little. I was wondering how people found driving the rx-8 in winter with snow tires on. Is it that much of a difference or do you still find that the car skids a lot? Anyone try sand bags and how did those work out? As well, if I choose to go with winter tires what are the least expensive ones I can buy that are still good, and what size/type are they? Or is it better off for me to just garage the car and maybe use it occasionally when the grounds are clear

Sorry I'm new to all of this, and like I said, my experience today was definitely not a pleasent one.
I cant wait until the summer
Thanks in advance

I got a set of 225 / 50 /17 winter tires mounted on rims from Tire Rack for $1,000. Just put them on yesterday for my third winter with my 8. When I did drive in the snow the RX-8 was fine. If it snows too much you begin to have problems with a low clearance car and snow. If you were to get a set like that you would have no problems selling them here next year.
Your other option is to rent a car each time you know there will be a storm. Depending on where you live that might cost less than a set of winter tires.

Mine came as a set . But you can find the ASA JS1 for under a $100 ea and since they have a universal bolt pattern they would be easy to sell down the road.
