Will 17x7 35mm offset wheels clear the calibers on a 6mt rx8. Found a good price on these for winter wheels. Any help is appreciated. Yes i searched. Go ahead and type 17x7 35mm in the search, you get nothing.

 

using 17x8 +35mm on a 6MT. with 225/45/17. works fine.

 

but why 17? and by only 7??

I would stick as close to 45mm off set as possible.

You will have to try them on to see if they will fit. It took me 4 different wheels before I got a 17" to fit. It has more to do with the dish of the wheel than the offset. At 7" you have quite a bit of offset room................

 

Why not? I was always told thinner was better for ice and snow.

So 7" is more likely or less likely to fit, i dont get what your saying about "dish"

 

He's asking about 7" width because your handling will be reduced.

Dish..... the depth of the wheel is the best way I can explain it. In otherword the design of the wheel effects how it mounts on the hub and the fitment t the brake caliper.

 

traditionally winter wheels with snow tires are more effective at a narrower width, he's not going racing on them. A 7" wheel @ 35mm offset will clear the fenders no problem, but if you think chains may be required you will be better off around 45mm offset to have adequate clearance, which is another reason for a winter setup to be narrower, I've seen more than one car stranded in a snowstorm because the chains hit the fender and/or liner and ripped them off

I recall a lowered Honda that was sitting on the side of I-80 at the Sierra-Nevada Donner Pass with the fender liner wrapped around the chained front wheel & suspension in a bad snowstorm this past January

 

The 7" width gives you more clearance on the inside with the same ofset....so a 7" will fit where an 8" might not...that's all. I want narrower winter wheels as TeamRX8 said...better traction and more room for chains ( god forbid )

 

I have 17x8s 35et and it fits fine for my winter set up.

I am running a set of mazda 3 wheels for winter, they are 17x6.5 with a 225/50/17 tire. I would really prefer to run a 7.5 for winter, but these were dirt cheap and brand new, so I took them. They work fine. I do notice some tire rollover, but for winter driving I think this is acceptible. It will work in my favor when the weather gets bad.

I'd be more concerned about driving the 225/45/17 rather than 225/50/17 - you're running a tire that's about an inch shorter than stock!
