First of all, I have never flooded my car because I have been very careful from day 1. I still have the factory battery and starter and was told at the time of my recall that replacing them wasn't necessary despite being in a cold climate.

Yesterday evening, I started my car after work with an ambient temp of 35 degrees. In a lapse of concentration, I let the clutch out with the car in gear and it stalled within about 10 seconds after start-up. Oops. Happily, it restarted without any difficulty at all.

 

A customer-friendly dealer would have replaced the starter, battery and leading plugs without batting an eye. Find another dealer and ask to have the work done. It will be worth it.

 

Unfortunately, I don't have many choices around here.

 

Or you can *ask* them to do it, just tell them *its hard to start it*, they HAVE to do it (Cuz its required by TSB) as soon as u're still within the warranty period. they cant say No

if they said *no* or refuse to replace something (Say. the battery)

call Mazda and report them.

 

Does this go for 2005 models too? I asked my dealer if they had replaced the battery, plugs and starter and they told me no there is no need to.

 

Think of it this way, TSB is something like "If it aint broke dont fix it" kind of thing. TSB is something that you have to TELL THEM to DO IT.

It covers ALL cars including 2007 model.(why 2007 I have no idea) theres NO reason for them to say no to this TSB. If they say no just tell them "Hey look, I know how this TSB thing works and Im experiencing this problem right now, either you do it, or Im going to make a call to the region manager."

They're just freaking lazy, trust me.

 

his car probably already has the new battery and starter... that is if he really purchased the car in July 2006 and it was a new model... -sigh-

 

I purchased the car used in July, with 3700 miles on it. The previous owner hadn't done anything to it. I doubt very much the dealership he bought it from would have done the TSB prior to sale.

Is there any way to know? Do the upgraded battery and starter have some identifiable numbers I could look for?

 

There have been a couple of upgrade batteries used, but if you have an Interstate MTP-35 (not MT-35), you have the upgraded, 640CCA battery. As far as the starter goes, see the attached image.
