Mazda 6 Diesel Turbo On Sale Monday..

The New 2.0 litre Mazda 6 Turbo Diesel goes on sale here on Monday...

Its a Torquey little bugga!

From Mazda Australia...
With fuel prices continuing to be a hot topic, Mazda Australia will also release its new Mazda6 Diesel at the Australian International Motorshow. On sale in late October, this makes Mazda, which is the country’s top-selling full-line importer, the only Japanese car maker offering a diesel passenger car in the increasingly fuel-sensitive Australian car market.

Boasting class leading torque of 360Nm at 2000rpm the 2.0-litre direct injection engine consumes just 6.0L/100km on the Government fuel test. With the Mazda6 Diesel consuming on average just 6.0L/100km -- according to government fuel economy figures -- the diesel Mazda6 can travel more than 1000 kilometres on a tank of fuel.

Fuel economy is even more impressive on the highway with consumption falling to just 5.1L/100km, giving a cruising range of more than 1250km from its 64 litre tank.

Mazda6 Diesel features a particulate filter trap that all but eliminates diesel "smoke", helping it to pass the ultra-clean Euro Step IV exhaust emissions

It has nearly as much Torque as a Mazda 6 MPS (Mazdaspeed 6, 380nm @ 3000rpm) at 1000 lower revs!!

Max Power....105kw @ 3500rpm
Max Torque...360nm @ 2000rpm

We have a car that you guys don't have...

I like diesels. Definitely more than hydrogen or any of the current hybrid crap out there right now (it'll have potential one day when they run it in series). I'd love to see that come over here.

For those who don't know what that converts to, it is 140 hp with 265 ft lbs of torque.

Too bad it seems like VW is the only company with the ***** to sell a car equipped with one here in the states. (Trucks don't count)

Not for 2007 they don't. They aren't supposed to have a new TDI in the states until 2008 when their cars can meet the new diesel emission standards.

You will see a lot more diesels hit the US in 2008.

I hope there are more diesels in '08.

TBH, I haven't paid much attention to VW's offerings since the mkIV days.

It'd make my daily driver easily, good torque for getting off the line with passengers. Doesnt need to be fast. Oh and the gas mileage! Then the 8 for zoom zoom.

It won't meet emissions in '08, though, and definitely not in '10.

Thats just wow.. awsome.
I love diesel engines since seeing several shows on different channels about the power output they can produce with very little work. That and seeing people like Banks make kits for those engines is just amazing. Hmm... maybe someone from AU can ask Bank's to look into making a sup'ed up Mazda 6 if he isnt known in AU that would be a good way to break into the market hehe.

Honda and Mercedes are going to be introducing 50 state diesel cars in the next year or two. Getting diesel emissions to pass Calif. regulations has required more work.

Unfortunately, the smelly and noisy diesel stereotype still persists. I remember those clattering 300 series MB's. The new diesels are so far removed from those tractor like engines. The torque is amazing on diesels and that is far more important to US driving styles than outrageous HP numbers.

I hope they find success in the US market. At this point in time, there needs to be additional high fuel economy technology other than hybrids.

I also hope Mazda brings the engine to the US market if it can meet 50 state emissions or even if it only sells outside of California, etc.

Do you think we'll ever get a RX-8 powered by diesel? That should improve the mileage by quite a bit.

NO

To start is would not be called an RX-8...
The engine bay and configuration prevents a "normal engine" from being installed.
I very much doubt you will see a rotary diesel.....BYNK.

m477 is right,
Jeep Liberty Diesel is sweet setup if you are able to find one. They are a true 'sleeper' when it comes to off roading, no one thinks a Liberty is gonna have 295lbs of stock torque from a 4 banger, that is until they realize it's a diesel. With the right chip you can get some very solid gains. +30mpg highway ain't bad either.
