seems 350z set for another power boost in 2007

seems the new vq35HR in the redesigned 2007 G sedan is going in the 350Z also. making more power to the tune of est. 315hp
http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....&page_number=5

the new G sedan hits 60 in 5.2 with a less powerful 306hp engine according to C&D. I wonder if the 200lb lighter Z could break the 4s barrier... Nissan is really upping the ante updating the 350Z every year, next year its supposed to recieve an even more powerful engine thats going in the new 08 G coupe.

the auto RX8 got a healthy power bump last year, i hope the stick gets a bump in 08. 260hp and 200lb-ft SAE NET would really get the 8 moving.

Let's stop chasing the Z in power output. It's a losing battle.

Maybe Nissan is getting ready for the new Toyota Supra. What is going to happen to the Z if the Skyline comes to the U.S.?

I'd rather see Mazda get a weight loss than a power boost (coughKaburacough).

The GT- R is coming to the US, and with Nisen new engine they can make more power becasue they are more efficent so its makes sence to sell them.

I'm sure if it was possible to squeeze more HP out of our engines mazda would have done it already. Enjoy what you have a cheaper, more useful, better handling/braking/looking car...

The 350z is a joy to drive though, fantastic car, just not good for people who like their kidney's or who need to carry more then 1 passenger.

Does this mean I'm going to have even MORE 350Z drivers revving their engines at me?

Oh well, I'm sure at some point we'll see a power increase in the 8, just gotta be patient. (rereads UK Mazda executive talking about MS 8 possibility.... )

A power bump in late model years of 8's affects our cars exactly how?

It doesn't. All it does is gives us "bragging rights" and ammo for debates about cars... maybe brings a little more prestige to the car. But does that matter? If you want more power, it's available already in the form of several options of FI.

I do not understand this fixation with Mazda giving the 8 more power. Sure, it'd be nice to see, but really that's all it is. Unless you're willing to lose a ton of money trading your old 8 in for one... in which case, you could just buy FI now...

There will be no magical retrofit for 04-07 RX8's in case of a Mazdaspeed model.

It matters because they aren't selling a lot of 8's anymore. Just look at the resale value of your car.

These cars aren't underpowered, however compared to their direct competition, and like it or not a sports car is a sports car, it is becoming vastly underpowered.

You may think the 8 isn't underpower, but guess what most "sports" car buyers do. Sales will tell you that, and sales are the score.

Mazda figure it out, how many more 8s would you have sold if it had 50 more HP? It looks great, handles great, but straight line acceleration counts, at least in America.

I dislike the 'slap on FI' argument. I want reliablity along with the power. Reliability that comes in stock form, not aftermarket. a blown engine will end up costing you the same amount you paid to initially add the boost. Thats not fun. The Z base and RX8 base can be had for similar dollar amounts, give or take 2k. Find me a reliable FI for the RX8 that will put me into Z territory for ~2k and you can continue using the 'slap on FI' argument. Other than that, its been dismissed.

I think if Mazda hopes to compete, they just need to make the car more raw for a Mazdaspeed version. If they can't get more power out of it, then just make it less civilized. Flare out those fenders even more and throw on some fat tires. Tear out all that insulation and other cushy stuff to drop those pounds. Beef up the suspension and make it handle like an Elise. Betcha that'll sell cars AND they won't even need to upgrade the engine.

My vote is for less weight. A 2 seater rotary coupe based off the MX-5 platform would do just nice. If they can keep the weight below 2600lbs and the price reasonable I am in. I would buy it even if it had the same power output as my RX-8.

but it must avoid the same mistakes said about the 350z for that size, mainly storage space and a comfortable ride.

People don't get it...

There's no more (emissions legal) power available in the Renesis. This is it. It is the highest output naturally aspirated 13b ever. Direct injection might help a little, but it's not going to add the 50hp everyone screams for everytime another car gets a boost. Mazda will never FI a rotary again (unless you count the hydrogen concepts). It's hard enough for the average Joe to take care of a naturally aspirated one. Broken halo cars do not sell more halo cars.

So do it yourself, or go get some pistons. Those are your options. Just stop bitching about the car being "underpowered." It's got all the power Mazda's ever going to be able to give it.

Overall the general public see's a company upping Hp each year means to them that the company believes in the car and is continually looking for ways to "Improve" the car. So far our 8's Hp has remained the same along with the look, so again to the general public how does this look? The 6 has the Mazdaspeed6 and the younger 3 is now coming out with the Mazdaspeed3, the middle child if you will the Rx-8 has no Mazdaspeed counterpart. From the outside looking in I'd be curious "Why arnt they doing anything with this car?".

I know the argument has been made about this is the max hp Mazda can get out of our engine but atleast do appearance changes if all else instead of minor interior tweaks and special colors for the Shinka's. Or better yet have a Rx-8 with all avalible Mazdaspeed parts, from shocks, exhaust, to the body kit.

Well pretty soon Z owners will be bitching and moaning about the Gt-R getting all the love so 'eh lol.

I love my 8 I just want Mazda to show us sum love.

Oh also I could care less about Z's they never harass me if anything they leave me alone. Now those damn Evo's and STI's oi.. always harassing me on the road and no its not made up grrr.

They can sell both. I would gladly give up ride comfort and storage for a lightweight pure rotary again. You would have some storage, like the 3rd gen, just not a lot. They could keep both, a RX-8 and a RX-7. With shared platforms it is doable. It would help with the costs of building rotaries too. I agree not a lot more power will be found so why not less weight?

I imagine a modern 1st gen. Dropping 300lbs or so would do wonders for the power/weight ratio and to all the other fun performance stats.
