Mine were less than 10% at about 26000. I'm just hardcore.

I have 45K miles on my car ...and I've been through 5 sets of fronts and 2 set of rears

Mileage has little to do with it

What pads do you use on the track..I can solve that consumption issue if youre a pad swapper for track events.

Sounds like she just rides the brakes. Brakes are nearly unnecessary in day to day driving in this car. Just need 'em for stopping or emergencies. Or the occassional spirited cornering.

Downshift.

If she has an auto she'll burn through them faster. Also there is a TSB on the front pads where they are instructed to swap them out under warranty if requested by the owner. Check on the forum for the TSB thread and you should be able to get a new set for free!

I have a AT first year I had my car I did not do much driving. So my brakes lasted 2 years. Now I drive a lot on street and highway. I had my brake pads replaced June of last year. Now I need pads and rotors. Some times I drive hard like at night and some times I dont like in the day when its 100+ out.
For replacement of the oem braks I would look into www.rotora.com

Whats the mileage limit for replacing pads under warranty?

I asked my dealer to replace pads per TSB, and they told me I needed new pads front and rear, and rotors turned front and back?? I think my rotors were actually warped when the dealer sanded and painted my rusty rotor hubs b/c they were great before I picked the car up after this service

I'm at 31k mi., and am a rather spirited driver.

I don't really have a comment, just thought I'd let this one sink in.

I know it isn't on an RX-8 but it doe show how different driving techniques can affect things. On my Honda, I downshift everywhere and use the brakes as little as I can. I am at 148,000 miles on the car with only 1 set of front brakes ever replaced and the original set of rears! They are getting low and need to be changed soon but it is possible to make brakes go pretty damn far.

for those of you who dont use your brakes, don't your clutches go faster?

i am always hesitant to start engine braking cause id rather replace my pads than my clutch

Well I'm also at 148,000 miles on the original clutch and it has no signs of slipping. It is far harder on your clutch to accelerate than it is to use it to slow down. Hard launches such as in drag racing are hardest on it.
