First you'll have to remove the bumper.
Take out all of the stock Airbox

Parts:
K&N RC5000
Breather
Two 3" Plumbquik from Home Depot
One 3" radius aluminum pipe. <-- I'll have to go measure how long

 

Since the K&N 5000 is Oval shape. The 3" Plumbquik works prefect because is flexiable and firm enough for clamping. You'll have to force it in. Once it goes it fits like a glove.

This is what it looks like with the filter in place

 

3" aluminum pipe with the Plumbquik attached to the end.
I"ll measure the pipe and post the measurement later.

 

attach the 3" aluminum pipe to the filter

 

Attach the other end of the aluminum pipe the the air sensor tube.

For those that don't have the Greddy turbo. And if you want to do this.
You can chop your airbox for the air sensor then attach the 3" aluminum pipe to both end..

 

Connect the hose that was connected to the Arnix to a breather filter

Reinstall the bumper and
You are done :D.

 

Any observations?

Gas Mileage? Sound? Idle?

 

Didnt notice a change in Gas Mileage:

Sounds better(very quite) compare to the Arnix. Because it way in the front and shielded.

Idle seems better. Less viberation.

 

How does the filter stay stable? Is it have a mounting point anywhere?

Its a pretty tight fit through the hole. Tight enough to stablize the filter and pipe.
Also, when you put the bumper back on. It puts a little pressure on the filter holding it in place.

 

Where did you get the pipe at? How long is it?

I got mine of a local store in MN Discount steel and aluminum.
mine was 9 inches. It was a little to long and was hard to put in.
I would recommend 8" or 8.5". However, Each car is different. I would also recommend you measure the space.

 

Great idea. It's denitely not getting any hot air from the engine bay anymore.
What did you do about the 3rd hose that was connected to the old airnix filter?

 

It figures someome one from Fargo would do that. eh!

Speaking of every car is different, did you raise the turbo pipe so the blue rubber adaptor sat higher up in the engine bay? My MAF housing sits almost flush with the bottom of the OEM intake box and would require a 15 degree bend in the tube to make it even with the VFAD intake. Yours sits almost level.

No, I didn't raise the turbo pipe. I'll look when i get home to.

You can see how the MAF housing sits just above the plastic and at an angle to the opening you put the intake through.

That looks about the same as height as mine. Mine just looks higher
because I removed all the stock airbox plastic pieces..

 

I finally got around to extending my air filter out into the bumper.

I used a 12" silicone intercooler hose from hightempsilicone.com (cut the excess 1 inch to make it fit.)
Used a 3" hose joiner to connect the filter to the blue hose. (didn't take pic of that)
I tilted the coupler right before the MAF unit so it would line up with the bumper in the hole.
Zip tied the filter to a small hole on the top part of the bumper. It moved side to side alittle, but it's steady now.

http://www.hightempsilicone.com/ I also got 4ply hoses, reducers, and T-clamps to replace the blue hoses/reducers and worm clamps.
I'll post a new thread on that.

 

So did you guys notice any hp difference from relocating the filter?

 

did not dino it. But its a noticiable difference.


Highway air temp:
the outside temp was 73 degree.
air temp was 78(a good average would be 10 degrees
more then outside temp).
on local road :
air temp was 84(a good average would be 15 degrees
more then outside temp).

10 mins Idle temp after a 15 min drive :
120
