this will not work for anyone elses car...the key is already cut to work with your car..or does it come with a fresh key non cut?

So RTRY, I've been thinking about doing this. Did you have to take it to Mazda to get it programmed? How much was the total expense to get it working? I know there's a thread for this somewhere but all I have is 2 simple questions.

 

I went to a local locksmith and they cut and coded this key/FOB and a standard key for about $80.

 

You can code it yourself within 5 minutes, both the ignition and the remote lock/unlock. The key can be cut using a regular key then fitted after trimming with a dremel. No more than $3 for a new key.

 

Also, there are replacement switchblade blank key blades for a couple dollars on eBay. I got mine and the Mazda dealer cut it for free.

 

Is this switchblade still available or did someone buy it?

My RX8 is fitted with some shitty looking aftermarket alarm system by the previous owner. I have an ugly looking remote and a key to start the car with. Is there any way I can use this switchblade key and have it programmed to work with the aftermarket alarm with the lock and unlock functions? I understand that the a new blade would definitely have to be cut .
