There is a plastic tether on the gas cap to keep it from getting lost (not a bad idea), but I don't see a place to hang the cap inside the filler door while refueling like my other cars have had. I don't want to just let it dangle on the fender, so I drape it over the pump nozzle while I fill. Does someone have a better idea?

 

I hung it on the black plastic-covered v-shaped thingy. It looks like it would get in the way of the nozzle, but it doesn't.

 

and I cut the cord on it. Not worth the slipping and scratches...:p

 

You can pull that cord off so you dont have to rest the gas cap on the back fender. The cord is just so you dont forget to put the cap back on and I don't think anyone on this forum is going to just forget to put there gas cap back on!!!!!!!!!!1

 

I hold mine, in my hand. You can take out the pump nozzle and use it and replace it with just one hand.

 

I epoxy-ied a super simple sheet metal (aluminium) catch to hold the cap on the inside of the fuel door. A-la Nissan Xterra which my wife drives. Thanks Nissan.

Go look at the inside of an Xterra fuel door.

 

How about this idea?
Go to local hardware store, get soem velcro tape. Put one piece on the inside of the filler door, the other piece on the edge of the gas cap.

Should keep cap out of the way and not swinging to cause scratches.

If this doesn't work, no harm done as you just peel the velcro off and you're back to where you started.

I haven't done this yet - it's on my weekend little project list to try.

The velco idea is way too smart and simple. It shoud be a more sophisticated and cumborsome solution requiring CNC machining and TIG welding of exotic metals that I cannot pronounce or even spell.

I am curious if the fuel vapors and slick nature of the plastic cap would prevent the velcro from sticking.

 

I have a fuseholder velcro'd to the side of my battery. I used a tad bit of superglue on the glue side of each strip of velcro since the glue it came with didn't really hold up under the hood. Been hangin on for a year now

Just sayin if you wanted to commit to the velcro and didnt want it fallin off either surface, there's options. As far as the actual velcro sides not sticking, no way!

 

Excellent idea! I have some velcro tape in the garage, left over from a previous project. Guess I'll give it a try.

 

Agreed, the solution needs to be much more complex and expensive. Don't forget to gas-free the tank before welding. Better yet, pull the tank out entirely. To velcro, I say p'shaw. Not a manly solution. :D

 

Agreed, manly solutions involve duct tape and/or welding, drilling or bashing. :D

 

Where is this thing?

To me it looks like the tether is just a little too short to go over the hook shaped bit of metal near the top edge of the gas flap.

 

OK, I give up. I won't try velcro - instead I'll spend all weekend in the garage with my lathe, drill press and dremel tool - I'll make some "stainless velcro" - now cutting the little hooks will be tricky - but prob not as hard as finding paint to match the car (Needed after the welding to the gas cap.... )

 

There is a black plastic-covered hook at the back of the indented area on the body, not the door. It works just fine.

 

Works like a charm! Great suggestion.
