Could you go into more detail as to cost ,i will be happy to get an extra 15hp out of my car understanding that the ECU in australia are different to USA.

Can you foresee any problems sending and appling your systems to overseas cars.

I suspect that you are right, and that the gains might be less for you, as I hear you have an ECU map that is a bit better to start with.
Cost of the Stage1 kit is $500 US ( about $710 AUD$)

There should be no issue with using it. The wires might have to be a bit longer to fit into the dash area, as you are right hand drive, correct?

Usage and installation and net results would be exactly the same.

Shipping by Express Post would be cheapest, Fedex Air a bit more expensive, but quicker to get it to you.

But has canzoomer posted before and after dyno sheets? I'm curious to see the improvement.

Here's one take on the hp #'s.

In bikes, ram air can add 10+ hp at high speeds, but they give a baseline dyno AND estimates at speed.

However, the 8 doesn not have a "ram air" intake, so I'm talking out of my buttocks. :D

Well I first read this thread when it first started and only had a few replies and ogt interested in other threads and never kept up...until last night when i heard more about CanZoomers mod. Seeing there isn't a seperate thread about it, i had no choice but to read thru the whole thing to understand.

Understood a lot, didn't understand other things, but very educational. Canzoomer, figured him to be a smart d00d in other threads.....but this.....sheer nutz what he's doing. I'm flabergasted(my $.50 word for the day)!

besides, i'm a slow reader!

 

just curious some of you that did do the dyno what results did you get _ _ _bhp?

 

Don't think anyone's got it yet... look for results in the next coupla weeks, he's shipping the first batch out soon...

Should have my RX-8 in a couple of weeks, and will be interested to see if the Australia cars get a decent result from this mod as well, since we're running the same ECUs. Will probably place my order as well if it makes a big difference!

Thought I'd check in here since I just finished reading all 28 pages! Except for the occasional straying OT this has been a very informative thread.
That makes sense.But what about those of us who cruise at legal speeds of 65-70mph (3250-3500 rpm)? If the stock ECU is rich up to nearly 4000 rpm should we not see an mpg improvement along with the hp?

If you keep the revs below 3500 rpm (hard to do!) in normal driving you are operating in a rich range, no? Does your map not lean this range down? This would logically seem to be good for mileage.

Generally speaking less airflow means lighter fuel injection duty cycle, so less fuel used.
Also, driving like that i am assuming little gas pedal, so also lower consumption.

Kind of like driving a truckload of eggs ( or your grandparents).

True -- or just cruising at legal speeds in 6th gear using cruise control.

True enough -- and there are times for this as well as times to just have fun with it. And my grandparents haven't done much driving since they died.

So, does your improved fuel map address the rich mixture at
0-4000 rpm? I hope I remembered that rpm range correctly.
Don't get me wrong -- what has been described is great and reason enough to buy one. I am trying an uncontrolled experiment -- I am going to try to keep the revs above 4000 for a tank of gas and see if the mileage improves or at least stays the same.

 

OK, final ( I think) setup is now done.

We were working hard to get some more power down lower in the rev range, while not sacrificing gas mileage.

It was easy to make more HP up high over 6K, but the thing is that I felt it is not all that useful, except in a drag race, while shifting at 9K.

I think we now have it nailed.

We have managed to move a healthy kick down to 5K, steady hard push above that to redline, while keeping below 5K cheap on gas.

It now feels a LOT like a turbo coming on when you hit 5,000rpm.
We set this tune up on both my car, with stock exhaust, and his car with a Borla on it, so we could compare.

I can definitely say that this works REALLY well with the Borla, as his car now makes noticeably more power than mine.

I took his car for a quick night test run after we installed, and I could readily break the tires loose in and out of traction just with modulating the throttle, in 3rd gear.

In 1st and 2nd I had to be very careful to avoid ending up going sideways and smoking the tires.

On mine with the stock exhaust I can still break it free in 1st and 2nd pretty easily, but 3rd is not as noticeable.

Canzoomer, this is really exciting news! Can you kindly let me know how different is your setup from the JDM spec?

Mine currently chirps 1-2 shifts with the DSC on, and 2-3 shifts with DSC off. Theres no hesitation at the various rev points that some are experiencing currently.
