They don't sound like they would last long on the street but they should make for an awesome track day tire. :D

Sweet! When I wear out my current set, I think I'm going to get the Falkens next. Let us know how they are!

(P.S., what'd they cost you?)

doh that's right, 'street class' autox tires must have minimum treadwear of 150 :o

if they're not too costly these can be awesome daily tires in addition to competition use!

All sizes and prices here --> http://www.vulcantire.com/azenis_rt615_t.htm
these were $172, so cheaper than 'premium brands' best "Max Summer Performance" stuff, and billed as close to R-compound tires using better technology than thr RT-215 in most performance metrics, let's hope they life up to the hype

I've been looking for the rules for "Street Tire" class and haven't been able to find them. It's not in the rule book and I can't find it on the SCCA web site. Do you know where they are printed? I thought the rule for treadwear was 140 which is what the RE40's are. I have been using these in Street Tire. Ya, I know. They don't work well. I'm trying to burn them up and switch to the Falken's

Just for grins, compare the rankings and reviews of the Potenza RE040:
http://www.1010tires.com/tire.asp?ti...=Potenza+RE040
"These tires almost got me killed..."
"...suck even when the car is parked."
D:D

Those Falkens look great. Have fun... now I must make myself a note for future purchase...

I'm back from a track day at NH International Speedway this Monday and have had the Bridgestones up until a week ago Tuesday when the dealer put the falken RT-615s on. So they are a week old.

I don't really have anything else to compare it to except the Bridgestones, so keep that in mind reading & watching. And I have Whiteline Adjustable Sways and Autoexe frnt/rear 4-pt strut bars. Otherwise stock.

So on the Falkens, good things:

- Ride is noticeably softer and almost cushie feeling - a surprise given they have a higher load rating 95 vs 91

- There is more noise, in fact it beats with the tone of my Cork Sport exhaust at some points, an interesting phenomenom. But overall not offensive.

- I lapped my Intermediate 1 group 2 of 4 sessions. There was that much difference. Another 8 in class was something like 9 sec off my time. The tires get hot and soft and just stick (period). Check out the video of a session below for what I'm talking about.

- they didn't get terribly hot, only 165 degrees (in pit). Just getting started.

- For $172 each - in a heartbeat.

and bad things

- don't know yet if there are any, they'll likely wear faster with me doing track days on um :D

Here's the vid http://www.spin9k.com/html/videos.html made with the RX-8 spinMOUNT camcorder mounting system. Enjoy!

Things to note - video is fairly long, size is about 40MB worth, almost like a race, but of course it is not timed. I started this heat at the front of the grid. I've cut some of the 1st bit, so you join me after I've had the pleasure of unobstructed open track access for quite a few minutes since no one could keep up....

....Then I catch up to the back of the back, there's another RX-8, a Miata & I have a good run after he passes me, a BMW, other misc cars that I have a go at - and the 8, at least here, with these drivers, is more than competitive. The impressive bit is that mine is fairly well setup, but certainly no race car. Yet with pretty sticky tires, the handling is something to behold, even in my hands - with only 5 track days under my belt. I'm sure I can do better next time, I know I left quite a bit on the table at many corners and the downhill also, :D but I'm still exploring the limits carefully.

This is one fun car, no doubt about it. We are blessed.

I the have the 615 on and love them too :D

With my JIC suspension it is incredible -- the stock wheels just couldn't hold the grip (especially with the turbo). I have 245 front and 275 rear. The stock wheels would just spin -- the Falkens grip and GO!

Interestingly -- I agree that they are a better ride than stock -- but mine also seem quieter than stock not louder.

I highly recommend.
