Nope. Nothing is solved until I can actually test to see what works and what doesn't. I can think something works when it's essentially in a "lab" environment, but through in the real world and it gets messy.

I have the logitech software on this laptop, but no webcam here, so have to wait till I get home.

RIWWP are you still looking for a place in Iowa to stay on Sep/23rd? Look at my location and let me know, we can arrange something here.

I may, I may not. I really don't know where I will be when along that trip. I do know that I plan on stopping by another member in Omaha briefly, but it may be early afternoon, too early to stop for the night.

At that point in the trip, it's far enough from a fixed time/date/location that it's a hard call to make. I will also be solo then, so more flexibility of driving farther, etc...

Mine PMing me an email or phone number that I can get in touch with you with? I will probably know a bit better early next week what kind of pace my sister and I are setting, which helps fix the Colorado Springs more, which helps give a time.

So I got the TimeLapse webcam thing working on the electronics end. But I need to figure out how to mount the webcam securely in the car...and something fast and easy that will stay, so drilling mounts is out.

Also looking into a few other apps, because this one doesn't have a resolution control, and the naming convention incremental number is limited to 5 digits, and I expect to use, at a minimum, ~120,000 pics on the time-lapse. And that is at 4-sec intervals, which would be about a 2 hour movie of the entire trip stringing everything together, and looks decent on playback. I can set interval of picture snapping, and then on video creation, I can set the delay between frames to get a specified FPS, and I can set any skip methodology to skip every other, or 3 out of 4, etc... So I am tempted to set it on 1 second pictures, and then I can the greatest flexibility for the movie size and length. The pictures average 0.44mb each, so on 1 second intervals, the minimum 117 hours I calculated would be about 421,000 pictures for about 18gb. Easily managed.

I'd prefer a better resolution though, since I have ~ 1.2TB to work with This app doesn't let me change resolution.

I found a REALLY good one on the web for free, but it won't run on Win7 x64. That one has everything the above one does, a dozen or so resolution options, fully customizable file pathing and naming convention, and even a feature to auto-upload in increments to an FTP server. BUT, it was built in 2005, so 64 bit didn't exist in the public yet, so it just hangs up as soon as it loads.

I hope you remembered to bring some swim trunks. There is a pretty good chance we'll end up at MazdaManiac's house Thursday night as WTBRotary is arriving, Jeff has a pool, and that might for a nice pre-SS get together.

Um kinda sure. Already packed.

So found out that I CAN adjust resolution of this software....in the registry editor. Odd that they don't have it possible in the UI.

So this should be working then.

Just gotta figure out the mount. If I can leave work early to get more time...

So I think I am going to be stuck with 640x480. Not much I can do about that.

I downloaded and tried 7 other applications, and this is still the only one that works on Windows7 64bit.

I have an email to the developers about the resolution, but no idea if I will get a response before I leave. Not a big deal in the end I think.

I did test out the number sequencing, and it will sequence past the 5 digits smoothly right into 6 digits, so that won't be a problem.

However, I have 2 options. Either 1, PAUSE it every night, and leave the laptop running constantly over the entire trip without interruption, and I will keep the number sequencing in order, or else break it up into different day folders. Since every time I click "start", it starts over from picture 1 on the count, and overwrites any pre-existing pictures of that name in that folder. If I pause it, and then restart, it picks up where it left off. Closing the app or shutting down the laptop resets the counter.

So if I do break this into folders, I will have the nightmare of re-naming 40,000 to 420,000 pictures into sequence to make the video.

Not that appealing, but maybe there is a program out there to handle it for me. I could probably do it in VBA code actually.

Might be the safer route to go.

You know that in windows you can select all the files in the folder, right click rename and it will rename it with number in parentheses incrementally. Then you can go to the next folder and choose same name but one number more than last number you have and it will go up from that number. The only thing is the number should be in parentheses.
like: your-name (desired number to be incremented)

Understood, but I would then still have to remove the parentheses

This app doesn't have flexible naming convention parameters to set, and the "convert to movie" section of it looks for a specific format "pic#####[###...].jpg" (brackets are optional, minimum of 5 digits required, more allowed)

I'd probably just code something in VBA to cycle through all the files and set the file names into the right order. I did something similar with a structured network drive a few months ago when someone else in my department was trying to figure out which files to send out vs not.

...

Is there a "flux capacitor" parking area at Sevenstock? I could get to the annual Flux Capacitor event though. Come to think of it, we haven't seen or heard of it. They probably just keep going back to the first one...

And that would kinda be missing most of the point of this

There is a faster, cheaper, easier way to do this....but not one that I want to do.

Actually, a flux capacitor wouldn't help. It would be Saturday....here.

No fun in that.
