Sparks Plugs and Warranties
From what I understand, S2 plugs are the same as S1. Futhermore the NGK plugs are the same as Mazda OEM plugs. Am I wrong here? The Mazda plugs are ~ $200 for a set from the stealership. NGK plugs are $80 from Mazmart. The only reason I can see to go with the Mazda plugs would be in order to avoid any problems with factory/extended warranties somewhere down the line. So what is everyone's thoughts/experiences/opinions on this?
ASH, I know you did a plug change not too long ago, did you use the NGK's?

I thought if you have an engine problem they have to prove it was caused by your sparkplugs. NGK is a reputable spark plug manufacturer, and they will back it up that those plugs are specifically designed to work in a rotary engine so there wont be any issue with the warranty.
if you use wrong plugs tho...

At the moment (right now) my 8 is off the road and I am enjoying my new MX-5 during our summer...
However, I am using Denso Racing, slightly colder plugs and more expensive, but I am getting good results. Even slightly better economy, however being Racing and colder you need to keep revs up as they don't particularly like slow putting around, But they are forgivable...I think they are slightly better than NGK, but are more expensive and really probably unnecessary, Denso also have a welded on ground bridged on both Leading and Trailing Plugs, which to some may be a perceived issue "if" the Bridge breaks off.....highly unlikely.
Anyway stick to the cheaper NGK, they are really an excellent spark plug, and DON'T BUY at Mazda Dealer Prices, get then from BHR, Mazmart or any of our Club Vendors.
The Mazda (genuine) Spark Plugs are 100% identical, made at the same NGK plant, but just put in 'Mazda' printed parts boxes for factory distribution and all the extra costs associated with OE Spare Parts Distribution.
NO Mazda Dealer or Mazda themselves would know any different IF you used NGK Plugs purchased from somewhere else...so do not worry about that at all, and save yourself some $$$'s.

Lol, its not that I don't believe they are the same, I was just curious how everyone knew they were the same. Information is a very good thing to have. Don't worry I'm not trying to bruise egos! Thanks for the legitimate answers.
