In the video it says "air pump on" then off later. Is that the whine I hear seconds after starting, and then winds down about 40 seconds later? What is it doing?

also the lights while get a bit brighter, like whatever makes that sound is drawing some power and when it shuts off there's an increase in elect.

That is an electric emissions air pump. It comes on at startup and whenever else it needs to.

So let me ask you all this question then... everyone who has spoken into this thread so far do you still avoid quick start ups / shut downs? I mean, lets say I need to move the car out of or back into my garage. Do I need to let the car warm up into mid range before turning it off? Or is that mainly a series I issue? Ive been driving it around my block anytime I just have to move the car... love driving it but its kind of a pain in the **** to do this really. I will continue to do so if needed.

Well I have a Double Carport or Double Garage, not side by side, but behind each other (Long), I always park my 8 in the secure last one, when I go out I have to open roller door and back the 8 out a car length, I do so immediately once started and let it warm up there, close roller door. So now I am in second carport/garage, I then lock and arm house, walk into second carport, by that time the 8 is about where I want it temperature wise, open the Auto door and move out and off.

But to answer your question...
I try and avoid short trips or short on offs, I have once though, when Temp needle had just started to move I turned off, came back 5 minutes later to restart and it did it perfectly like any other car, no issues.

Generally, I move or drive the car when the needle moves off its bottom to the first Horizontal line, just after the first RED LED goes out.

I always keep engine under 3000RPM until fully warm/Hot.

I have not heard of ANY flooding issues with Series II's, I know it can be a pain, but I generally plan ahead if I need the car in another short distant location??, but not always practical.

Frankly as long as you let is warm up for about 2 minutes from Cold, you will be fine to turn OFF and ON later...I would just avoid an ON then OFF, and ON again straight away....

OH, and I am NOT in favor of this HIGH Revving (3-4000RPM) BS before you turn OFF...all you are doing is priming MORE gas into engine to be burnt....Just turn it off at idle...no need to rev her..

I have started mine ON then immediately OFF to try and flood it. Could not do it. I also have BHR/Yukon coils though as it should be noted.

i dunno much about rx8's or rotaty but on a mechanical all ini one point of view it seems like either 1 of 3 things

1. pressure/compression issue
2. clogged somewhere
3. leak

but if it doesnt affect ur driving performance, thats atleast good for now but id start doing research on how to remedy this just for peace of mind.

I get the thumping too and it sounds a lot more obvious with a free flow exhaust. I'll make a video clip tomorrow.

Bowzer, did you read this entire thread (specifically post 19)? The cold misfire is regarded as relatively normal (not a "pressure", "clog", or "leak" issue).

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go out and un-clog my car so I can pressurize it and check for leaks....
