S2 engine reliability so far?

Has anyone had any major engine reliability issues with S2 like flooding, etc?

I haven't had or heard of anything. The only thing was a couple of bad cats from the factory...that got me but that's about it.

I think all you have to do is look at this thread for S2 Technical and Trouble shooting and see the low amount of activity to give you some kind of reading.

the s1 dont flood very often either anymore so i dont see the s2 being any more prone to it then the s1 was. The only time ive flooded my engine was due to a dead battery and it being new and me learning to drive a stick lol. (s1)

I think the new starter and better battery fixed the problem.

Has Mazda changed the spec of the battery on the S2 or you mean "better" battery because the car is still relatively new?

I meant the flooding issue on S1's due to starters.

i don't consider flooding a major engine issue... more of a slight inconvenience? i dont want to be rude but the 8 may not be for you specially if you consider changing your oil major repair lol j/k

I get it too when its cold and its warming up...but to a much lesser degree than yours. You are getting a thump like once/second....ill get a thump every 5-10 seconds or so before it stops shortly after. Never really thought much about it though.....

mine will thump if i blip the throttle right after starting (which i never do on purpose).

once it's warm it's fine. i think it has something to do with the rich computer fuel map on cold starts.

What symptom did your car display that was caused by the bad cat? My '09 has a mild vibrate-y rattle-y sound between 2000-3500 rpm under light to moderate throttle, seems load related, only after the motor has warmed up, which sounds like it could be coming from an exhaust component (but not sure).

I also get the "thumping" on occasion (usually not) when the engine is cold, but not to the degree shown in the video. If it does it, there are only 2 or 3, then it warms up. Does anyone know if this is a mis-fire (plug fouling), exhaust backfire, or ??

Glad to know it's normal and common....

The 'thumping' is a rotary idle trait probably less present in renesis powered cars than the rotaries of old. It is a combustion instability brought on due to the geometry we have to work with and air/fuel ratios. The fast idle enrichment is what is going on at warm up when it's pronounced in your car. Nothing to worry about.

Paul.

Mine would hasitate at like 6k and the car wouldn't rev over 7k or so. The car didn't have any power at all. I had no vibrations or rattles.

What's the highest mileage on a series II right now?

I'm only at 2800, and I'd be surprised if anyone has had problems with engines already, considering that it looks like they showed up at higher than 50k on series I.
