Was watching a video on the prototype Mazda2 range extender and couldn't help but notice this coated Series 2 rotor next to it (being used for comparison I assume - video is in Japanese). So I screenshotted the S2 rotor and figured posting it here might be of some use to someone seeing as there isn't a clear pic in this thread.

Yes as I have said before this coating DEFINITELY exists on S2 Rotors, I have a brand new Japan made and assembled S2 short block (October, 2010) and when I turn the engine and shine a strong/bright/white LED flash light through a spark plug hole I can clearly see the black coating on rotor surfaces......so...

Well MSRP appears to be the same for S1/S2 rotors, or within several dollars at least depending on the specific rev level, seems like they'd just sell the latest version for all

Couple of screen shots I took off of one of Knightsports' REW and renesis short rebuild videos which show the coating on the rotors much more clearly (screen shot quality is that of a potato though:/ )
