"clunking sound" when braking to a stop

Hi All,

I have a new RX8 with 3700 miles on it and when I come to a stop and when I am coasting to a stop and hit the breaks I hear and feel a "clunking sound" from what seems to be the passenger rear of the car. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Yogi

Take it to the dealer for warranty work.
Something may be loose
Caliper bolts, wheel lug nuts, suspension?

Was any work done recently?

No work has been done on the car other than oil changes

Does it happen all the time or just after the car has been recently started?

Could be the ABS system doing a self test, it does that shortly after starting the car. If it was this you would hear the noise roughly about the time that you are pulling out of the driveway.

Last time that happened to me it was because I forgot to securely tie down the body I had in the trunk.

I was wondering about that... Do you have a DIY?

Well, I have a rear strut tower bar. Useless for handling, but you can strap heavy things to it real well. Just gotta make sure your "friend" doesn't have any metal objects that can span the battery terminals, as I have the bat in the trunk. I mean, it isn't going to do anything to them. They're dead. But it will **** up your car. Bad. (If you ask me how I know, I will plead the fifth.)

Good re-use!
But the battery relocation makes your car vulnerable if your friend is only mostly dead

Could the sound be gas in the tank "sloshing back and fourth??? I hear the sound every time I stop firmly. I always tie the bodies over the hood for all to see...

I am not even sure I should post this BUT... THe clunking sound was a beer glass from the Chico Beer Fest that I had tossed in the trunk behind a gym bag. After three months the glass must have found a way out from under the sadly unused gym bag!!! At least I now have an audio reminder that I have a gym membership that I should be using...

Cheers,
Yogi

As it turns out the sound is still with me...I am thinking it is the gas tank... Does anyone know if the tank has baffles in it to prevent the gas from sloshing back and fourth?

Sent from the GYM!!!

Yep, I get this too, and only when the tank is nearly full.
