Avg MPG for break in period
Hey all,
Just about went through the second tank of fuel 93 octane shell. I have kept the engine below 5k rpms, vehicle has 555 miles. Only got 100 miles to a half tank. Will this improve as the engine breaks in over time ? Saw many posts of 18-21mpg. Could there be a problem or does this seem normal?
Car manufactured 7/2009, purchased 2/2011 with 111 miles
Thanks for the input

He's as bad as Can
If your basing this post on the fuel gauge please come back after you gone through 2-3 tanks and calculated your MPG from actual gas pumped in / miles driven from the trip ODO.

Will post more accurate data after another tank has burned. I save/have every fuel reciept except the one when the dealer filled prior to purchase. I will use the odometer and gallons purchased rather than eyeing the gauge. Thank you for the rapid reponse.

just fill up, zero the trip odometer, run it for about half a tank, then fill up again. read your trip odometer and divide what you put in your tank, theres your MPG

Calculated as described above by jasonrxeight. 175.9miles/13.257gallons=13.628miles/gallon. Second tank of fuel, mixed driving city/highway, 93 octane shell.
Where do you guys run the tach for a highway cruising range, just not sure if I may be lugging the engine or carrying a higher rpm than neccessary? Researched and found an overwhelming amount of, "when it beeps" posts for shift points, thats funny.
Thanks for the suggestions

When it beeps is a good time to shift, that's what I usually practice. On the highway once you get up to speed just pop it into 6th and forget about it. Around town at 40/45 I am usually in 4th gear. If I am just driving casually I only go up to maybe 4k and then shift.
Just drive and shift when you feel you need to, its not hard.

I averaged 15mpg when i was breaking-in my R3 doing no more than 4k rpm all city driving. I'm glad that's over! Now the fun begins! After the break-in, I average 16mpg, with several redlining everyday on the way to work.
