10,000 miles and my coolant reserve is empty?

It's been relatively cool the last few weeks... highest we've seen is 80's and maybe hit 90 once or twice. Shouldn't have been enough to cause his problem as I drove my 8 in much warmer conditions without a problem. As far as I know, most the other members here in SA haven't had an issue either.

Sorry for thread res.. just wanted to add that I get this -all- the time.
The coolant will come on during cold/warm/hot days anywhere from 30 F outside to 100F+, and can trigger anywhere above 3,000 RPMs, if I shift to neutral and let it idle, it goes away.
I've taken it to the dealership and Pettit, they can't find anything wrong. OBD2 stats always show normal temps, even when the light comes on.
So far it's a complete mystery.
I do have 40k miles though.

My coolant light came on at ~9000 miles. I went to Mazda to get a bottle of coolant, and it filled up with less than 1/2 cup. Now I have an annoying full bottle of coolant in the back of my car.
FWIW though, I park at an angle with the nose dipping and this is probably why it came on in the first place.
3 months later and it hasn't budged a bit. I am sure it just evaporated out the bottle.

Had the exact same problem. Bad sensor in the expansion tank. Dealer will replace it for free if you're under 50k so get it done before you get there.

Assuming confirmed good level of fluid, it'd be a bad sensor in the reservoir bottle; go get the bottle replaced.

Mm, the dealer did offer to replace the bottle, but they said it'd cost me 400$ and wasn't a guaranteed fix.

The issue you have is a well known problem that there is even a TSB for. The sensor is bad, you cant do anything to clean it, or replace it alone. You can only replace the whole reservoir. This will not FIX the problem, it will only make it go away until the new reservoir/sensor goes bad. The problem is a poor design.
the permanent fix is to simply unplug the sensor. light will never come on again, and has no adverse affects
Dealerships are retarded half the time anyway. Un-f*cking-believable that Pettit doesnt have the marbles in their head to know this, and their supposed to be considered a respected shop...

My understanding from some of the other threads floating around is the latest revision (M) seems to have finally fixed it proper. I'm about a year out from having it last fixed and fine so far; curious which revision I have.

To be fair, at the time I took it to Pettit, it was only happening during extended high speed driving, and from basic testing (putting car on a lift and rev'ing), they deduced that it could be caused by the coolant level dropping below the sensor when RPMs went above 6k.
The dealership though, I took it in when it started happening at any speed/RPM randomly.
You wouldn't happen to have the link to the TSB? So I can show to the dealership or reference it so they can fix it.

Rosenthal Mazda's TSB list doesn't show anything new yet.

I dont have a link, the place or two I know of that lists them arent exactly up to date. I suppose it is even possible it isnt published yet, but quite some time ago someone with close connections to Mazda made the statement that a TSB was forthcoming.
EDIT: the above post beat me to this^^...
Seriously though, if you can get them to replace it free, then go for it. Otherwise just unplug the sensor, because a new reservoir/sensor will eventually fail again leaving you in the same predicament. It will not cause any other issues(such as CEL) and you will never see the light again. And all you have to do it look at your level whenever you'r under the hood already.

I am curious to know what prompted the OP or the dealer to do a compression check at only 7,000 miles...

Sorry about the thread-jack.. but yea I took mine in, said the coolant light kept coming on and the coolant level was fine. The tech said "oh ok you need a new bottle". I asked if it was under warranty. He said "as long as you're under 50,000 miles". Granted I do NOT have any kind of extended warranty. Only the original warranty which is 48 months 50,000 miles.

I went to dealer today to replace my clutch, tried to ask for the bottle replacement, they told me it's not covered and they called Mazda to confirm it who also said it's not covered by the warranty.

Check out the S2 TS Bulletins...
The Coolant Bottle replacement IS covered under warranty...provided...
This repair will be covered under Mazda’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty term.
I see this at a minimum of 3 years or 36,000 miles (not the Limited Powertrain Warranty of 5 years, 60K miles)....so if your car has done more than 36,000 miles, you unfortunately are not covered.
Edit...
After reading back..
I do have 40k miles though.
