Just recently got my R3 has 37k on it. My problem is with my 5th gear. 90% of the time when i shift into 5th it makes the same grinding sound as when changing gears without your foot being fully down in the clutch. Only happens in 5th. If i go into 5th slowly it doesnt make the sound. Any thoughts?

 

I suggest you have a read of these threads in this section or SEARCH?..

Early 09-10 had an issue with 5-6th gear Synchro, PM me or post your full VIN and I can give you parts details.

But, please spend some time and search as what you need to know IS all here.

BTW: ANY Manual Trans should always have the clutch FULLY depressed before changing, unless you think you are that good that one can perfectly rev match without wearing synchro's...hence grinding...

Also changing Trans Oil with a good GL4 Oil will help a lot.

 

mine does it too sometimes but with second, usually only when i'm letting it out as i'm shifting it in if you know what i mean :-/ You know how you get used to the car and when you can let out the clutch on the shift but just do it too early lol Doesn't do it when it's warmed up though. I usually double clutch 6th since it's an overdrive and not an actual gear apparently. Sometimes on 5th too but rarely

 

Yep, I had that with my 09 GT. Had it fixed at the dealer via the TSB. Never made another sound after that.

And when the hell is spring going to get here!? I'm tired of just staring at my motionless RX-8 in the garage hooked up to the battery charger/maintainer!
