RE-Amemiya Tail Lights

Has anyone put these on an S2? All the pics I've seen are for S1. Wiring or fitment issues?

I considered buying a set and from what I've heard, yes s2 will have to cut your wiring harness.

Any idea what the fitment is like? In other threads, it looked like the corners of the S2 OEM tail lights overhang bumper a bit when people install them on an S1. I've never seen anyone try to go the other direction and install S1 tail lights on an S2, so I'm not sure if there's a gap.

As far as the install, I believe the taillight housings are exactly the same s1 compared to s2 and should be a direct swap. Worst case scenario, it's made of frp or carbon and you can sand or add material to fit. Most aftermarket body parts need some 'massaging' to get them to fit well.

The overhang can be seen here:

This is a quote from their website

Take a look at the pictures and decide if it is worth doing anything about it - we are going to leave it alone on our Time Attack car."

I used to have an S2, and its the one thing i miss about it. All in all, can you break down how much this whole project costed you?

I see what you're saying but I'd be quicker to believe the rear bumper is of poor quality / design as opposed to the tail lights. To my knowledge, there are plenty of members who've installed s2 tails on s1 with no issues. And like I was saying, basically 99% of aftermarket parts will require some amount of professional fitting. I'm sure you could get a shop to build material to achieve your desired look.

ps- I know this is a very old car / photo but it looks to me like Mazdatrix is so ghetto that they couldn't even paint the bumper before releasing pictures?!? Now if that isn't the definition of ghetto, then I don't know what it. Haha.

I'm not sure how old those photos are. I think Mazdatrix is mostly just OEM parts sales these days, but they were probably still building race cars when those were taken. It's not worth worrying too much about fitment when you're taking the car apart and putting it back together a few times per season.

They used to do pretty cool R&D. At one point they made their own castings for titanium rotors.

While not exactly the subject of this thread, I did recently install a set of Valenti tail lights (https://valentiusa.com/shop/revo-tail-light-mazda-rx8/) on my R3. The lights can be used on both S1 & S2 RX-8's. They include a thin trim piece that gets installed along the bottom of the tail light housing when the lights are installed on an S2. IIRC, that trim piece is roughly 3/16" wide. So you'd likely have a small gap between the bottom of the light and bumper cover with those RE-Amemiya tails. Also, the mounting stud placement is different for S1 vs. S2...or at least the Valenti's specified different locations for S2 vs. S1. One nice feature of the Valenti's is they included connectors for both S1 & S2, so no wire cutting was required.

there are numerous threads on here displaying the differences

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-ext...hts-s1-234143/

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-...ersion-242957/

signifying a google deficiency perhaps

and I’m pretty sure either Mazdatrix or Kyle Mohan still sell those S2 body parts

the Ti rotors were a bust, honestly it made even less sense then a hybrid Renesis, if it were that easy Mazda and their mega-yen resources would have done it long before …
