We had also communicated via email several times, but after that, I got nothing. I have not called him back, but like I said, I was already on the fence about whether I was ready to take this step with a relatively new RX-8, anyway. I'm guessing, based on what was posted in this thread, that someone's already taken him up on the first free tune.

I don't have a problem with the "tune via mail" thing, but that's because my RX-8 is not my daily driver. If it were, I wouldn't likely go that route.

Simple truth is, lack of time. We are currently in the middle of the Grand -am season, the Mazda MX5 cup season, and SCCA club racing, as well as now is when the Bike guys like to spend money on the tuning for their bikes. So the long and short is, some things slip thru the cracks due to our limited resources, and the broad scope of ecu tuning we do.

So to answer some of the questions you guys have;

Yes we do have the tuning solution for the ecu in the gen 2 RX8, as well as the gen 1

No we do not ever intend to make this a hand held, end user type unit, its just not that easy to do. Devices like the AP are very neat, and as a Cobb Pro tuner, I enjoy using them for several of the cars we work on. They have limitations, and do not cover all of the maps that can be addressed with other means, but they are very nice and well supported for turbo platforms. Sad to have seen Cobb go away from the NA cars, but I understand the reason.

Can we tune a car with no/ low gain MAP sensor for FI applications? Sure, we have done quite well with the MX5 in both turbo and SC set ups. Its really a matter of using what you have.

Can we remove/mask pid codes? Sure, but again, why? If you have a good reason, then we can work with you to do so. Its all about testing, and data.

Now what this comes down to is this, while we do have a very good tuning file developed for the second Gen, we would be more than happy to work with anyone here that would like to develop what thay think might be a good tuning file for their application. It requires you to be able to send us data to correct for variances in your mods on your car. Is it a pain to do sending the ecu back and forth, yes, it is. But its the only way unless someone wants to buy the hardware from us to load files.

Hope this answers some of the questions you guys have

Some people want CEL masking because they live in areas that only scan OBD2 readiness monitors for emissions inspections, with masking they can pass without reinstalling emissions equipment (catalyst) and completing a drive cycle.

paimon.soror 07-12-2011 11:36 AM

ok so heres the thing:

1. who can afford not having the ECU in their car for a day or two? mine is a DD so it would be hard.
2. how many s2 owners would be willing to "donate" to the cause for someone to get a tune going so we can actually have some legit forum-member data
3. what vendor would we choose to do the tune.
4. who is actually willing to be the guinea pig

But, see there is the rub; thats not legal for us to offer on a street car. Track car, yes, but street car ,no. The fines are way higher than I want to pay.

What kind of power increases should I expect over stock if I send you the ECU for a car with basic power mods: i.e. RB Intake & Duct, RP Supercat and RB Catback, CDI, BHR Ignition Upgrade, Larger Injectors (I know this doesn't serve to add power, but it's something for later), BHR Flywheel

oltmann 07-14-2011 01:10 AM

FYI, you should consider selling your products with the disclaimer, "Not legal for sale/use in California on pollution controlled vehicles."
If you change 1 byte, that ECU has to be tested and approved by CARB, a state agency.

Of course nobody ever looks at checksums, but it never hurts to cover your ass.

Yes we do that already to cover ourselves, however, its is, as they say, only as good as the paper it's written on.

And BTW, cksms can be easily manipulated to read the same even after a complete change of the base coding

10-14 whp, however the gain in tq under the curve is quite impressive, and makes the car a hoot to drive

rafaga 07-14-2011 07:44 AM

So...I have a potential S2 guinea pig. Since I'm not an expert on any of these things, allow me to ask some stupid questions:

1. Will it void my warranty?
2. Will the dealership be able to tell that it was tampered with?
3. I don't have any mods on my car yet. (Stock R3). Does it even make sense to tune it? Or it does not matter for this exercise?
4. Will it really take just 2 days?

Let me know...

paimon.soror 07-14-2011 07:48 AM

In theory 1 is a yes, but, morals aside, thats not to say you cant send back your ecu for a stock reflash

I am also curious on 3 and 4 since I too have no power mods

Roen 07-14-2011 07:22 PM

^Interested as well

Chibana 07-15-2011 03:10 PM

I'm still interested, too. My RX-8 is *not* my daily driver, so I could definitely be without it. It normally goes for several days between drives sometimes, anyway. I also have no "real" modifications--just a drop-in K&N air filter, lightweight forged wheels, and Racing Beat front and rear anti-roll bars.

Joe, I'm curious: Do you do any programming for Grand-AM Continental Tire series RX-8s? There aren't a lot of them, but last year I spoke with guys from Pirate Motorsports at Mid-Ohio, and they were pretty cool. Just curious to know if you worked with them, or any of the other few RX-8s in that series.

I purchased the Greddy Emanage Ultimate for my car and am actually in the process of getting it installed and then tuned with it using a dyno , will let you know how this goes when done. May be a bit of a project .... never really heard that many great things about emanage, but did hear some good stuff about the emanage ultimate, so we'll see. Not like there's many options.

paimon.soror 07-16-2011 06:43 PM

^^ Agreed, hey any little bit of testing helps. I appreciate you taking a leap here. Worst comes to worst, at least us S2 owners can say "yea someone with a S2 gave it a shot"

paimon.soror 07-20-2011 09:11 PM

http://www.re-amemiya.co.jp/commodit...5&pid=c3b7ebe7 Interesting stuff recently released for the S2's from RE-A (the items that say 'After')

usiris208 07-21-2011 07:36 AM

It's funny cuz parts for s2 has been out for awhile on Japanese sites from what i have seen

paimon.soror 07-21-2011 07:40 AM

Parts .. yes, but I am talking about ECM's

paimon.soror 07-21-2011 07:43 AM

FWIW: Heres Google Translates ass-y translation:

Light Module
Map change on the content of electronic throttle control + speed limiter cut

correction table change accelerates the asynchronous injection (injection maps for asynchronous,

F-CON V-in can be used to modify said Furukon expensive and MoTeC PRO was,

of course we can change the computer is genuine.

's pure and you can change this map is only Amemiya RE.)
※ For more details please see the RX-8 for our page

Same software, same tuner, we use. Piasini Engineering

paimon.soror 07-21-2011 08:06 AM

Only difference is that theirs is a piggyback and yours is a direct tune right? (minus the fact that its twice the price lol)

oltmann 07-21-2011 12:02 PM

That is just a stock ECU with stickers, not a piggyback. Same deal as Dynotronic, trade-in or mail-in flash on stock ecu.

paimon.soror 07-21-2011 12:37 PM

but the stickers must add some extra tuning ...
