HID to LED conversion.

I am just going to post pics of the headlight assembly and the mods I made.A new ballast will run you $400. For $50 You can get a set of LED lights. Another 20 will get you LED HI-beams, and 20 more will get you fog lights.

parts list:

D2S LED lights
Rubber grommet (roughly 5/8inch diameter)
This is the only place I found which had the ballast side of the plug. You will have to shave the top.cornerts off slightly but it works. The shop owner told me he will give me a link to the item in his store.

1 minute epoxy
5/8 inch drill bit.
solder and soldering gun
(alternatively, you could get the 9006 version of the led and avoid the solder)

First remove the headlight assembly. I took the front bumper cover off. Might as well do for lights at the same time.

Take the ballast off so you can remove the D2S plug from the assembly. Remov3 the ballast temporarily

This is the D2S plug. You unplug it from the ballast, then you can maneuver it out. Pull the d2s plug out. Get a chopstick or screw driver to help you manipulate it.

This is the back cover for the hid bulb. It is important to keep it sealed so you don't get dirt/dust in the assembly.

Drill a 5/8 inch hole in the top right corner. Feed the canbus through and then slip the grommet over the plug. I epoxied it, but you might be ok skipping that.

Got any photos of the beam cutoff? Are you blinding oncoming traffic now?

I don't have any pics of the cutoff, but had my wife drive towards me and she said it wasn't any worse than anyone else she encounters. Except with the brights. Man, they are super bright!). My driveway has too large of a grade to give a realistic picture of the cutoff but I honestly don't think its that bad. I am getting the headlight error but I'm working on fixing that myself (there are kits to do it but I think I am going to do it myself).

All in all, it works better than I expected. Far superior!

I am also working on an auto shutoff for my headlights (just arduino and a light sensor) if anybody is interested, I'll post that as well.
