I want to eliminate the bulky box and get some performance. What one do you suggest I use?

 

just get rid of it and put Bounty towelettes over the TB. I use 3 sheets...

 

Get the Weapon R intake. It's the one that flows best which is why I used it on my Turbo setup.

Do not believe what I wrote above. I was just messing with this lazy *** noob who can't be bothered to search. I would never recommend a short ram intake on an RX8 or for that matter any intake at all unless you just want one for bling factor and sound effects. The factory intake system is a cold air setup and works great.

 

I gained 16rwhp with the Se-Arch intake. I have the dyno **** to prove it.

well the lower portion of my box was cracked... got a wrecked car, and it needs a filter and some other pieces of the intake, so its the perfect time for an upgrade. I will have over $150 into parts to get this factory one right again. So I was looking at these two..

One loses power and screws the fuel trims. The other one doesn't.
Which one is which is up to you to research.

Dude just get which ever one you want I have an AEM I'm happy with it, and can use some of the piping for going F.I. later on. other then that the racing beat REVi is good. so I would say just stick with AEM,REVi, or stock air box with a K&N Filter.

An intake is not going to give you any big power gains. But they sound amazing and look pretty. I have the AEM. If your budget allows you to spend a few hundred bucks on some sound and bling then go for it! AEM and the RB revi would both be reliable, smart purchases if you decide its what you want to do.

I got the AEM and im super happy with it...i got 5rwhp gain with it ...so go with it or the Racing Beat one.

 

Is that what the marketing team at AEM told you, or did you actually dyno it before and after on the same day.

 

I dyno before i put the aem on and had 166rwhp...after installing the aem i dyno the car and i got 171.5 rwhp...so its real number, i have the dyno sheet around... (AEM put a 8hp gain on the website)

 

If you only put down 171.5WHP then you have issues. Unless your drive a 6 port Auto that is. But it sounds like you are not working with a properly running 6 port so your results are meaningless. And if you dynoed on different days, different conditions, then your results are even more meaningless.

 

yeah i know my car doesnt make even 180hp... but anyway... i enjoy it as it is... the car had almost 2 years at the mazda dealer without being sold (yeah only like 10 S2 are in Dominican Republic)...so maybe that have something to do...or that i went with a 3inch midpipe and cat-back, wich normally its too much for a NA car without a lot of HP...
and the conditions between dynos were very similar ...(hot as hell is the usual weather over here, time of the day was almost the same too)

So .... time warp back ... 2004 - 2006 and your new RX8 is on the dyno and gets 175 hp.
Knowing what you know today, would you think something is wrong?

I just installed the ms cai, no noticeable power gains but it sounds nice and I personally like the free'd up space in the engine bay

 

Yeah I dunno, I put down about 185WHP bone stock back in the day but that was 4 engines and about 100,000 miles ago

I have watched a couple of dyno days and most of the stock guys were over 180WHP, I'd say between 182-185WHP. If this guy put down 171WHP then I would say 10-11WHP is a significant loss of power. At least to me it would be on a stock NA car.

 

I dynoed 135 hp on one dyno a year ago. This summer, at a Mazda Corral, I got 175. I don't think dyno's tell you anything reliable. The exception would be for changes in tuning.

 

Well the change definitely must have been the K&N version one you installed. That is the only thing that can explain the 40WHP difference.

 

I am partial to Injen and they have many types. There is the cold air one which is the model 6080sw or like the revi which model is 6080p. I personally have the 6080P and I have noticed significant difference especially in my throttle response. Not to mention it has the MR technology and an easy mount for the Mass air flow sensor. Just my opinion.

 

That weapon R intake looks pretty sick. How well would it work and fit on my 05 rx8 with just catback exhaust?
