i know there are a couple JDM tuning shops running the Rx8 intakes on REW engines, so while the ports on the renesis are differently spaced than the previous engines, an adapter is possible.

its really too bad the upper intake is plastic, you basically need to fab that ending in a DCOE pattern instead of the throttle body.

a 48 DCOE is small, plus there is so much little fab work (fuel system is wrong, the ECU somehow needs to not know you switched to a carb, etc), i just don't see this being a great idea, but thats just IMO, and keep in mind that i have a very nice running weber fed P port.

Why not go with something proven? I'm not going to act like I would know where to begin, but I know if you take efi out of the equation on the renny your not going to achieve the same power level.

I moved the thread.

The Renesis has computer controlled oil injection that I don't know if the Megasquirt can handle. You may be better off with an earlier ported version of the 13B engine. The other option, since it is a race engine, is to block off the oil injection ports and run a strong oil pre-mix. If you do that, it doesn't matter which version of the Renesis you use.

This will help you to put a carb or throttle body on the renesis: RX8: Intake - Kits/Air Filters: RX-8 Engine Carburetor/Manifold Adapter Plate -
It supports any 1986- 6 port 13B intake manifold so the popular Weber IDA and DCOE's become possible on the Renesis series I and II.

On the Rx-7 forum, I was watching a thread saying that the Series I engine accepts an early 12a or 13b front cover. That solves the ignition issue because you can run an early 80's distributor and coils.

Now the same thread also says the Series II engine does not match the early front cover because of the different oil pump.
I am yet to confirm if it is possible to swap the oil pump for a Series I.

I used to make a weber adapter that held up to a 55 DCO.
I just sold the last two a few days ago. However there is a used one coming back to me from the Netherlands. This is a short manifold with a 3.5 OD on the outlet side.

never saw this thread, which was probably a good thing

the entire idea fails on anything but a full-on race application with a short ratio 6-spd transmission, because it eliminates the entire variable-length, valve-actuated intake system that defines the Renesis as a super-wide powerband engine. Even then it’s questionable, because it was done multiple times, yet never produced results better than the best stock intake & stock port Renesis I’ve ever seen.

.

Has anyone done an m90 on an RX8?

Haven't had any luck finding answers to this, I'd like to see a modest amount of boost to get to let's say 350 HP. Any suggestions?

Regards,

Mike
