Midpipe

Do you get a check engine light on with the racing beat midpipe I daily drive my R3 and I'd really like to NOT have a check engine light on all day

And no, before you search, the s2 exhaust setup is exactly the same as the s1. The only difference is that you will need longer rubber hangers for the tip not to melt your plastic shrouds.

Cheap, quick fix: electrical type over light

Correct approach: Mazdaedit

I've had the pipe on for almost a month now and I haven't gotten the light yet. It's different for every car. Some ppl have it and some don't. If you don't get it then it's only a matter of time before you do. A word of warning if you do get the non resonated midpipe it is ungodly loud. You will attract ALOT of attention to your car (admirers, police, angry neighbors etc.) in my opinion, I would save up for the bhr midpipe. If your worried about the CEL then just tape over it. Or look into mazdaedit (I don't think Cobb makes an accessport for the s2) it will reflash your pcm to ignore the CEL amongst many other great things.

I will definitely look into the mazdaedit at some point today in a couple days Im going to order the hks exhaust and just figured might as well do the midpipe at the same time, so the bhr pipe is better then the racing beat one huh.. humm I may just wait on the midpipe for now then... I wish I could hear how the car sounds with this set up in person youtube just isn't cutting it lol

yea purchase 2 extended hangers for the back of the exhuast, the oem ones will be too short, i encountered this problem installing my HKS , extended hangers will fit like a glove. i have this exhaust on paired with the bhr midpipe, enjoy it sounds amazing.

also make sure you torque down the 2 bolts for the muffler tip real well, one set got loose and fell off due to the vibration, luckily the other one stayed tight.

09 Rx8 R3 HKS installed

Title pretty much says it, finally got around to installing my HKS exhaust and it sounds absolutely fantastic, alot of you guys have said youtube videos do it no justice and I 110% agree with that. Only problem is I was going to do the racing beat midpipe no resonators now I'm not sure if I want to bother. Tough life huh.. lol
Picked up 2 exhaust hangers from a local garage supposedly the came off a early 2000'so ford pick up as you can see they worked out perfectly without any modification

Stock exhaust

Hi-power single tip

All mounted up

So happy i went with this exhaust

No I had the SR motorsports single res midpipe (2.5") before I got the BHR and the BHR cut the rasp down a lot.

It looks so good. BTW I completely agree with 9k. The bhr midpipe is your best bet for this exhaust. I speak from experience with that non res pipe. You can't do highway speeds without screaming like your trying to race every other car on the road. The bhr pipe sounds stock and gives all the benefits of being straight piped.

I actually was just about to reply to one of your other posts I guess it's when you had the non resonated RB pipe, driving with the exhaust for a day now and love the sound from it but I am very curious as to the sound differences between the RB non resonated and BHR midpipe wish I knew someone in my area with at least one of them. So you guys would recommend the BHR? I do drive it daily

Current exhaust sound

Sorry no idea why that link isn't working but if you want to hear a clip of idle and a little Rev at the end, go to youtube and search jcr32sky and it's in the list of uploaded videos I'll try to get the link to work properly

It sounds great. You did a great job with it. (I have the same blue R3 btw lol) but yea. For a daily I would highly recommend the bhr pipe. I daily my 8 with the Rb non res pipe purely because I've come to like the sound of it lol (call me crazy) but it is really obnoxious. I choose to only drive it around locally to work, school, home etc. to avoid Dbag police. I used to make regular trips up to NY to visit family and what not, but I have to put the cat back In to do that, otherwise I run the risk of attracting state troopers when they hear my car wailing and I'm only doing like 50-60mph. ( it will sound like your running the Lemans circuit even though your still driving the speed limit) IL try to put up a video soon to show you the difference in sound it makes. I plan to by the bhr pipe soon so I want to make a comparison video.

Plus I've noticed very few other 8 owners here that have the non res pipe. So hopefully it helps other members with making their decisions on midpipe.

That would be awsome to be honest it's still hard to tell what the exhaust sounds like in real life but a video would help a ton. To be honest I like obnoxious lol, I do worry about the cops though. I'm still leaning toward the RB non resonated only because like I said I don't mind the sound, it's one of those things that I know I should have something with a resonated pipe but why wouldn't I want it loud and throwing flames haha. Well if you do make a video let me know post the link because I'd love to see it still going to wait a few months before I do the midpipe anyhow. I see alot more people with the red R3's don't get me wrong they look great but I love this blue that's for sure.

I just posted up a video for my midpipe. I'm posting a link to it here. I'm probably going to do a comparison video with one of my friends here who has a s1 so we can do side by side comparisons and what not. Hope this helps, it was pretty cold out when I made the vid too.

This is exactly what I needed to hear thankyou. It's hard to tell just how deep the HKS exhaust is on video. I absolutely love mine and as long as I'm not on the accelerator hard it's not too loud I'm 110% going with non-resonated. Anyone know why the series 2 seems to be louder than the series 1? I'm just curious Even my stock exhaust seems louder than a stock series 1 .. not that it matters just curious to be honest ... that's a really nice set up you have there sir! How are you like the revi intake?

Lol if you say so. I love the sound and smell I get from the non res pipe.(smells like global warming) but if you think getting on the accelerator hard is Loud now. It's 10x worse with this midpipe. You don't have to be hard on this pedal to scream. 4k rpm is enough to cause a rumble in your chest if you hear it outside the car and that's usually were I shift at. The vid can't really tell you the experience of it. Despite the excessive noise of it I really do love it tho.

I do feel like Im slower with it tho. With the cat on I feel like the car is peppier and really moves when I want it too. With the midpipe it feels like the car accelerates alot slower now. I probably just need a tune but that's just me.

As for the intake, it works wonders. It's definitely a bit throatier that the stock and I didn't feel like I lost anything when I changed it. My previous s1 had the aem cold air intake and when I had it, it felt like the top end (high rpm) pick up was better but my low end took a dive for it. This intake feels alot like the stock. No low end loss with a barely noticeable top end gain. The car just runs a little smoother with it. For the price of it tho its not worth changing the 8s already godlike intake system tho. Seriously the stock intake is that good. I got the revi for free when I bought the car. Otherwise I wouldn't pay the 500+ it's worth.
