S2 owners with single exhaust

Thinking about going single on my 2009 rx8. Wondering how it looks with the s2 rear bumper. Pics would be great.

ASH8 02-27-2012 03:51 AM

HUH?

I don't know any S2 owner that has gone with a single tail pipe (how old are you? :))

IF you go single outlet you will have to fabricate a cover to go over the non used semi circle hole in back lower Bumper...let alone the main silencer reconstruct or replacement.

BTW: Welcome to the club:)

dozer 02-27-2012 04:40 AM

I would think it would look the same as the S1. just look at some of the pics and photoshop one side out.

I'm looking in installer the HKS single exaust cat back on my R3, I wonder how its going to fit through the original hole, will either need to cut in it or it would hang lower, well see in time, I should be installing this spring, if you still need pic Ill get you some

Thats the same exhaust i was thinking of going with. If i get it done first ill post a pic for you lol....

It should fit fine, just use some adjustable exhaust hangers. It might hang a little low but there is no "fitting it through the hole" since its more of an arch than anything else. Other people have had luck with s1 exhausts by doing it that way.

wazup_shorty 02-28-2012 09:00 AM

Ya I was getting some adjustable hangers for sure, I've read around that other cat-backs made for the S1 originally wont fit unless they are set lower at the rear (with the hangers) I saw pics of what they look like a they go out pretty cheap on eBay.

I don't want to hi-jack the thread, but if anyone knows what would be the best mid pipe to use, I heard that the racing beat is the smoothest, and the agency power too but gives allot of droning, and would any one recommend going strait pipe?

xexok 02-28-2012 02:27 PM

I get no droning at highway speeds with the ap midpipe, 65 to 90 was perfectly fine. This is with the stock exhaust mind you, which gives off a rasp/rice sound at about 4k rpm when you get on it.

The best midpipe on the market IMO is the BHR one. You also pay a premium price for it though. The Ap midpie can be had for $216 shipped still I think. I have been told the packing inside it will eventually get eaten up and the sound will change but I have not noticed it yet.

I would agree, Charles (Ray) from BHR did extensive testing to the mid-pipes on many brands, and his BHR came out on top sound and quality wise...so a good move to BHR.

There is by Part Number a difference between Series 1 and Series 2 (CAT Pipes, Manual and Auto), as is with the entire Exhaust (due also to the Rear Muffler outlets handing lower than S1)....IMO OEM CAT Pipe difference is probably due to emissions as it is considerably more $$ than S1.

Has anyone actually fitted a BHR Mid-pipe to a Series 2?

xexok 02-28-2012 11:14 PM

It should fit fine if its made to fit the s1 exhaust. The agency power midpipe is made for s1 and bolted up perfectly fine. I did have to go buy some new bolts for both ends though. The bolts that connect the cat to the rest of the exhaust(springy ones) were not long enough for the install.

Damn your exhaust hangs low. Ever hit it going over speed bumps? Are you lowered?

KGR 07-12-2012 04:37 PM

No, never hit anything and no, I am not lowered, I ended up buying different exhaust hangers because with the stocks one they burned the shrouds.

Doesn't that fart-can burn your bumper?

09blueR3 12-30-2012 07:29 PM

Fart can? Really dude... No it doesn't burn the bumper. Not even a little.

paimon.soror 12-30-2012 10:00 PM

wow that is all kinds of awful.

nabatron 12-31-2012 01:55 AM

oh ya that shit looks so bad

Racing beat

why do you want a single exit exhaust so much? Is less weight your goal? my personal opinion is that dual exhaust looks better. If you want the single exit look the HKS high power is good. or you can get somthing like these guys that have posted already. I went with the Racing Beat exhaust and its great!

paimon.soror 01-08-2013 05:20 PM

there are 3 groups here:

1. the ones trying to save every ounce of weight and performance
2. the ones who want it for the sound
3. the ones who want it for the looks

based on the pics i can tell you that no one succesfully accomplished #1, and only 1 person accomplished #3 ... can't comment on #2

nabatron 01-08-2013 05:59 PM

they all look like fucking garbage! Single exhaust do not look good on an S2 especially on a R3

Mine saved 14 pounds compared to the stock. It's barely louder than stock, which was an important requirement because this is a daily driver. It's basically what Isley won...how many national championships with? Sure, I could replace it with a turn-down for the ultimate weight savings, but there's no way I'd drive it on the street like that.

paimon.soror 02-11-2013 08:02 PM

sure you saved weight, but you failed to address the other half of what i said ... it would be interesting to see how all of those bends are affecting your exhaust flow.
