Paimon: by "all of those bends" do you mean the two bends that follow the path of the stock muffler system? I'm not too worried about them. Maybe they look tighter to you in the photo than they really are. They're both mandrel-bent 2.5" diameter pipe.

Yea it might be the pic, it makes it look like you have almost a 180 bend going to the muffler

Here's mine. I've used photoshop to close up the unused tip cutout, but that's how I'm going to have it shortly.

xexok 03-01-2013 05:07 PM

How long have you had the exhaust install CustomMSP? The tip seems really close to the shroud and looks like it will eventually burn it possibly.

Just a day, and it already has.

Moby 03-01-2013 08:42 PM

Hey CustomMSP, what did you do to fill in the missing shroud? Also, My Turbo XS exhaust is probably about as close to the shroud as yours and I have barely any burning after 6+ months. But your exhaust probably gets hotter since it's a single exit.

That's just a photoshop. I'm going to go to body shop and ask them to work some magic using the images above. Shouldn't be too difficult for them.

You can buy some cheap hangers at autozone that are longer than the stock ones and work very well. If you autox or anything of that nature you should probably go with the stiff poly hangers but the cheap ones have worked great for me. I think I've had my hi-power for about a month now with no melting and no scraping on anything.

I appreciate the heads up. I actually already am using longer hangers, 3 on each side. It's not recommended to drop the muffler too much as that places the whole catback at a large offset which might cause undue stress on the rest of the exhaust system.

xexok 03-02-2013 02:14 AM

It only dropped it about an inch or so I think, but it was enough to make it so it didn't burn. I didn't notice any stress on it from twisting when I put it on. I think it is at almost the same angle it would be on an s1.

That's good.

based on the pics i can tell you that no one succesfully accomplished #1, and only 1 person accomplished #3 ... can't comment on #2

Well put and yes that R3 has a fart can.

Id say who cares for looks. Function over form. Go single, lose the weight. 2 gains instead of one

I'm think of picking up the Apexi hybrid megaphone dual tip catback system. Does anyone have any knowledge on this exhaust system, fitting, sounds or quality?

Thanks

Seeing as that is a dual tip exhaust, nobody in the single tip exhaust thread has that system. Sorry bro. :smoker:

Also, you made me use my first post to this forum to say that. *Sigh*....I blame the internet for my actions.

I broke down and acquired a used HKS Hi-Power. I have modified it to fit and I am quite happy with both the sound and weight savings. Pics when it stops raining.

YoursTruly 11-07-2015 09:23 PM

The used HKS I bought didn't have the adjustable tip so I made my own out of some 4" piping cut on a 30 degree slant. With the stock midpipe, it sounds incredible and doesn't have enough drone to bother me on my commute. I took a video, but the camera mount rattled and ruined the otherwise excellent sound. I will fix it and take another as soon as I can.

i hate to revive an old thread. but ive owned the HKS hipower exhaust twice. honestly it does look a little goofy on the car that should have twin pipes but it serves its purpose pretty well. it sounds alot better than most exhaust systems out there and is a bit more affordable. and on the S2 it most definitly will save you a decent amount of weight. the only exhaust systems out there that i believe sound better are the HKS legamax twin pipe, or the RE-amemiya dolphin tail. also the Greddy sp2, but im not sure if they make that anymore (dont quote me on that, i could be wrong) but all 3 of those are in the 1000-1200$ range.

all in all, if can get one/want one, get it. you wont regret it. plus it should help you save for a good midpipe if you were so inclined in the future.

Has anyone used the Race Roots single exhaust system. Is it any good? Any problems with it? I know it's been around for a while now but I'd like a bit more sound from my exhaust... I know exhausts don't make much more power for the rx8's so with that being said does anyone have information????

Lucky you.

I actually own it on an R3, and i had the original one on my S1. the sound is good. not throaty like borla, sound like F1 at high rpm.

The one that i had on the R3 is single side with back exit tip. this i HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

the downward tip sounds awesome at low speed, but you will have to have earplugs for highway driving.

You also may need to cut or bend the heat shield to clear some hanging area if they didn't change it.

James Collins 01-28-2016 12:58 PM

Finally got ahold of race roots and they said their not making them right noway. .. so that leaves me with HKS single exhaust what does everyone think I found a few video clips sounds good to me, where's a good place to order performance parts from found a place called lightning tuning$477 + 9.00 shipping ... but also found others around the 560 mark plus like 30 shipping and all that ... also does the R3 use a different exhaust set up the videos I found of stock exhaust sound a bit quieter then what mine sounds like I guess it could be the camera ... Maybe

James Collins 01-28-2016 01:04 PM

I love my HKS. I took some video like I said I would, but the camera mount rattled badly and ruined the sound quality. I have gotten nothing but compliments on the sound and every time I start my car and get to hear that sweet noise I thank myself for going through the trouble to install that thing. There is no HKS Hi-power which will bolt up and fit correctly. Yes you can attach it, but the piping hangs down and the tip doesn't sit right at all. I bought mine used in order to save enough money to modify it to fit. I started by cutting the axle-back flanges off and replacing them with a v-band. This allowed me to use longer hangers on the muffler, but the stock hanger on the pipe. This lined up the exit well enough, but mine came with no tip and I had to make my own.

EdimaK 01-28-2016 09:00 PM

Like I said man. The hks is a pretty bomb exhaust. I love the sound it makes although I rarely get to hear it since I put I'm my midpipe (non resonated racing beat midpipe). That crap is LOUD. Just like I put in my last post. If you have the money and the means hop on it. You will not regret it. You can it off Amazon nowadays too if I remember right. And no, before you search, the s2 exhaust setup is exactly the same as the s1. The only difference is that you will need longer rubber hangers for the tip not to melt your plastic shrouds.
