The Final Word on Ignition Coils?
My 2011 has just begun to idle a bit rough at 26K miles, and I am suspecting the ignition system is beginning to complain since I have run this car very hard.
After much searching and reading, I have found nearly universal praise for BHR and RR replacement kits. They are similar in price. Which set is better?
To add a little complication to the equation, I happened by Rotary Performance last week and posed the same question. One of the guys there told me not to spend the money on either, to buy OEM coils, and to use a plastic bracket they have to secure them in place. He said the coils are not weak, but the mounting system is, which causes them to arc through. Their inexpensive bracket prevents this from happening, and OEM coils stop failing once installed. He also mentioned gapping the plugs a little tighter helps with premature detonation and rough idle. Finally, high performance wires don't hurt either.
So... Who am I to believe? What is the final word on RX-8 ignition options?

One is proven to be flawless, is truely plug and play, and is sold with a warranty from one of the best vendors around.
The other has periodic problems, isn't exactly plug and play, doesn't come with a warranty, and is only available from a vendor that doesn't place much importance on honesty or customer service. (example: https://www.rx8club.com/good-guy-bad...-douai-251637/)
The decision isn't really that difficult from my way of thinking.
The bit about the OEM coils arcing is stupid. If you have ever held an OEM coil you would see pretty quickly that there isn't anything to arc from on the coil. Our plugs are also fixed with gapping, you can't adjust it. He is only right on the wires, so one out of three. The other two are complete fabrications.

And???? I'd really like to know how it's an Overstatement? Almost every member on this forum knows about, has or wants BHR parts. So please humor me. How is it an overstatement to get excited about car parts?

Dont try to kill my inner joy Alnielsen. If you dont get excited about Great car parts. Mabye you should re check WHY your a car guy. Just my thoughts. Everytime i even start to look for new parts i get thrilled.

I mean that I don't think he is trying to squash your excitement. More that he wasn't also being excited about it, which is what "crowd" implies

Perhaps Willard was speaking rhetorically but the real point and question is why Al would want to go out of his way to quash and stifle the excitement that any forum member has for any vendor who does business here (?).

That sucks AL. It really does, now to clarify, im a 26 year old Retired SGT from the U.S. Army. Im not a 19 year old kid who gets excited over everything. But im passionate about cars. Thanks to my dad. Always have been and always will be. Take a seat, look at some old photo's. Go take a rediculous ride in one of your cars. Find what used to make you excited. The only thing that amps me up more than being able to upgrade my cars, is my wife. Guess im lucky in that sense.

40 years old here and already feeling cranky. It has been said that inside every old person is a young person wondering WTF happened. I'm wondering what happened to that young person these days. But I still get excited about cool car parts.

STVNSCOTT. If your getting coils, get the BHR kit. Thats one of the reasons i am STILL excited. Because i myself am expecting said kit any day. A big thank you to Charles. I'll update whenever their installed. Gravey, i never said i was old haha, i do feel like a geezer from time to time. I was merely explaining the situation a bit more.

^ Wait. You don't have the kit yet, but you highly recommend it? LOL?
I will be ordering the BHR setup very soon. I am still just deciding on whether to spring for the catted midpipe at the same time or continue to waffle on whether it is worth it to spend any money at all on power gains for a N/A RX-8. That money could pay for more driving lessons, which could do me a lot of good...
I have also spent some time ruling everything else out to make sure it is in the ignition. Still need to get a spark tester...
