wheel offsets for the rx8

hey guys, I'm planning to get some HRE's for my 8, and I was wondering if any of you already have rims on your car? and if so, can you recommend a good offset?

Factory offst is 50mm. You can go as wide as 30mm and it will still "fit", but probably rub with wired tires or a lowered suspension.
Your best bet is to find wheels with an offset in the 45mm to 38mm range.

Mazdamaniac, what do you mean by "wired tires?"

If you go with an 8.5" or 9” front do a 45mm offset if you do a 9.5 or 10" rear go for a 55mm offset... This will fit well look OEM and not require any rolling of fenders especially if you lower the car... You are better off going with the smaller of the two sizes...

wheel calculator

Offset will be variable based on wheel width. Gets more with wider wheel, less with narrower.

Can't confirm accuracy, but here's a site that helps calculate the change based on a change in wheel width:

Keep in mind that if you plan to get a wheel that has a phat lip it will change the offset so do your home work. My current set up is 19x8.5+43 front/ 19x9.5+45 rear. It's lowered on coilovers and I have no rub. I did roll the fenders before installation. Very easy to do and a lot less involved and cheaper than most people think.

But vivid what size tires do you have?

Wether you will rub or not is mainly do to the tire width and the wheel offset. The wheel width plays a minor role and rarely is what rubs.

I have 275/35-18 on +45mm 9.5" wide rims.

My tires just barely rub on big bumps with enough weight in the car. So for the rear you want the following equation to be true:

(Tire width / 2) - offset = distance from hub

for the RX-8 rear rubbing starts at:

275mm/2 - 45mm = 92.5 mm

So if you don't want any rubbing you need that number to be less than 92.5mm probably 90mm to completely safe.

For the front I don't know, I don't know anyone who is rubbing in the front. With 245/40-18 tires you should be able to go with 40mm or higher offset wheels without any problems. with 225/45-18 tires you should be able to go with as much as low as 30mm and it will still fit as Mazda Maniac mentioned above.

So +38mm's ok with stock width?

Cool What about 35 series in Tha rear

Hey im wanting to know if i could put 19inch wheels with a 9.5 width an a 35 aspect ration on the rear think i could but will have to do some fender rolling and i would be pushing ever thing out 21 millimeters with this type of wheel

When you revive ancient threads you set off a chain reaction causing the death of thousands of innocent puppies.

Click on the search forum button. Put in "19x9.5" and you will likely get your question answered and no one who died in 2005 will need to be reincarnated to give you a response.

for the rear go with a 19X9.5" with +40 offset and a 265/30/19 tire. it will be perfect. for the front i'm not sure what would be perfect since mine could stand to be a little wider and pushed out further. here's a pic of my rear wheel fitment with Tein S-Techs.

I'm running 18x9.5 +38 on all corners with 265/35 rubber, dropped on coilovers and no rubbing at all.
