Wheel Advise...Please!!!

Well I think I've norrowed it down to only 2. Affordable and clean. I've got a Brilliant Black, with RB springs/drop. Think I will stick with 18"s.

Still can't make up my mind on Black on black, or go for a more contrast.

Anyone got any pics of the Axis Widetrack installed on an 8? Or, know the weight?

Any and all opnions welcomed!

Ghost on the froum has a BB with the rims you are talking about but i think his are 17" because he does some road course racing.

I really like the widetrack by axis but they only go to 18" and i want to more up to 19's when i switch. i too want to see what they look like on an 8.

I think those 5-Zigens would look hot on your BB, in fact I was going to get those for mine 18x9.5 all around but it's so hard to let go of the Volks I have too. But out of your choices I think you should defintley go with the Zigens.

Does anyone else feel that the black wheel look is kind of getting played out? All these jokers with white, red, grey and other colored cars rockin the black wheels. There should be a unspoken rule about only black cars having black wheels.

Anyway, I still like the black on black look. It's awful mean lookin.

Those do look a bit small. 17"s?

those rpf1's are $309 per wheel? Any wheel/tire packages?

yes, those are 17's on Ghost's RX8.

As for the RPF1's....they are great wheels. I bought a set for autocross wheels, but think they would be great looking street wheels. That Goodwin price doesn't include any center caps...and to be honest, I ahve no idea what the centers look like. Moostafa has recently traded Axis wheels for the RPF1's.....look for his thread and you'll see some pics of the wheels installed on his TG.

I wanted to powder coat my RPF1's black....but just decided to add a pinstripe to the outer edge.

Any other opinions...?

What about offset? Any suggestions.

Here's a newby wheel question: Would a lower or higher offset give the look where the spokes are kind of bowed out, and the center of the wheel is more concave? That's what I prefer. (Like the 5zigen pictured by itself above). Or would offset have no effect on this?

Ksescott: Those rpf1's are very nice. What offset are you running? What tires?

These are the set that Goodwin Racing sells for the RX8 (18x9.5 plus 45 offset). They are also the same ones Moostafa, Team RX8, Speedemon32 have put on their car. Speeddemon and I are using these strictly for autocross, so we have 285/30/18 Kuhmo V710's. Team RX8 is using them for autocross as well, but he has street tires mounted on his...I beleive in 265/35/18. I believe Moostafa is running a smaller tire, because he had a new set of tires mounted on his previous set of rims. These wheels are perfect for the 8, in the special order sizing. They have plenty of room regardless of how wide you want to run. You would have no problem running a 265-275 wide street tire on these for daily use.

I'm gonna attach a couple of threads here for you. This should give you some additional pics to look through.

that should give you some good ideas on how they look on yellow, white and titanium.

links posted, there are plenty of pics there. Enjoy.

Here's a closeup of mine. I added red lugs and a red pinstripe along the outside edge.....again, these are strictly for autocross, so I wanted to have fun with them.

Kwescott, I have noticed alot of people switching to the rp's.. did you really notice a difference in performance from the volks?

oh god, the volks are massively overweight. Moostafa has the same comments, and he was coming from lighter Axis wheels than my Volks. The switch to lighter wheels is probably the greatest upgrade you can put on your car. I've been racing with a set of OEM wheels for about 9 months. This weekend was my first event with the RP's....feels like you don't even have wheels on the car. I'm not overstating anything here, this is truely what it felt like. With the OEM set, you definately could feel the wheels...this new setup is awsome.

I love the styling of the RP's, but there is now way I would make them my daily drivers...I love my Volks even better, for the street.....I don't race around at all on the streets, except for the San Bernardino meets and the Malibu cruises. Other than that, I'm a bling bling guy on the streets.

if you get the 5 zigen on, make sure you get a low offset and wide enough one so that you will have the concave look!!
or if you want the polish lip, stick with the axis!!
but im telling you now, polish lips are hella hard to maintain!

Not all Volks are created equal...the weight on my staggered 19 inch GTs are much higher than the lightest in the series, the CE28's. There is a big difference between the lightest and heaviest Volk.

Aside from the bling factor, do you think the rpf1's would be ok for street use in 18x9.5? Ok in wet weather?
Or, are they too over-the-top? I plan on tracking the car some, but primarily a daily driver. I really want another upgrade for my 8, and will need tires soon anyway, and think this might be a better overall upgrade vs. a supercat or something.

they will definately be fine, plus, you can put some wider tires on than factory. More grip and less weight. Performance wise, this is a great thing to do for the car. Lightening up the wheels, or any other rotational mass (pulleys, flywheel), are all great improvements...making acceleration better, and allowing the engine to work harder with less effort.
