Exclamation What's going on with my TPMS?

I just bought a 2005 RX-8 and I love it. My only problem is that the TPMS light starts blinking after an arbitrary amount of driving. It usually takes at least 10 or 15 minutes for it to start, but then it keeps blinking until I turn the car off.

I also have aftermarket wheels (trying to find a set of OEM) so is it possible that the sensors aren't installed at all? If that were the case, I would expect the light to begin blinking immediately, though.

Check your air pressure. If it's too low the TPMS will come on. Inflate them up to 32 psi and see if that fixes the problem. If you don't have the sensors, well, that's another problem in itself; duck tape covering the light will do the job in that case.

I checked the tire pressure and they're fine, but even if it was low tire pressure, doesn't the light come on and stay on?

I'm receptive to the idea of covering up the light (I understand it's sort of an idiot light anyway) but I'm curious about why mine are blinking - if there's no tire sensors, or if it's malfunctioning while driving, for whatever reason.

If you have aftermarket wheels then chances are you don't have the TPMS...which will make it blink. Just get used to it, it's not harming anything...

Look at the valve. If you have OEM TPMS sensors, there will be a nut between the plastic valve cap and where the valve disappears into the wheel.

Here's a good example of what the sensors look like removed from the wheel:

If you don't see that nut, you probably don't have sensors and this is why the light is blinking.
