Wink Tokico

Anyone used Tokico shocks? I just got a set of the fully adjustable D-specs and will match them with my H&R's in the spring time. I bet I can get the sucker up on 2 wheels she will be so stiff.

My buddy has them on his wrx with prodrive springs and it is 200% better than his stock setup. I was considering the same shocks for my 8.

Of course you know we all use Tokico shocks as they are OEM on the 8, yes? I called them about the new D-Spec when it came out and they cautioned me they are only mildly stiffer than stock, not really intended for track use, something like 15% I think they said ( don't quote me - it was a month or so ago I called). They're just a tad fancier looking and also nicely priced .

its not gonna be that stifff...coilovers with adjustable dampening are stifff.. youcan literally sllam the car without much movement.... now thats stiff.. ive had shocks/spring setup before and was disappointed.. mind you those were not adjustable.. but still.

not generally considered to be a notable performance shock by knowledgable people

How stiff?

Interesting... I called Tokico as well before ordering and they claim the D-spec can be set hard enough for racing. I'll let you know in the spring as I only like a stiff ride and refuse to use anything less...

tokico shocks themselves are about the same as the konis at full stiff but they can also get light enough to accommodate stock springs. the konis dont have as broad a range. the konis are also harder to adjust because you have to remove the rear to do so. the tokicos also auto adjusts the dampening and rebound together i think.

both konis and tokicos are more then adequate for racing. you dont want it too stiff in this car. im going with koni shocks with vagtland springs (1 inch drop with an 80% increase in spring rates and they weigh less then most springs). after i get the car sport aligned, ill see if swaybars are necessary. if your suspension is too stiff, your car wont "bite".

What do you mean by "you can literally sllam the car without much movement"?

what i meant was that if you adjust the dampening to a stiffer setting, the car wont absorb a "bump" like a stock setup.. because the shocks will allow the spring to compress to whatever level for a comforrtable ride...

on the other hand a stiff coilover will not allow the same amout of compression because of less shock travel.. and less up/down movemet of the wheels ..hence the harsher ride.

Yes you are right Gh0st... the Tokico's do adjust the compression and rebound, but it is done simultaneously using the same ****. I wish you could separately adjust the compression and rebound like you can with Superbikes. I don't know of any street shocks that can do this.

I need to have at least some adjustability in the dampening so I can correct for oversteer/understeer in the car to get the correct balance point and grip levels.
