tire test in the new GRM: Azenis is still king

so Grassroots Motorsports revisited the ultra-high-perf street tire comparison this month. pitting the Azenis RT615 against the more expensive Yoko Advan Neova and Bridgstone RE01. they tested them in both auto-X and lapping formats (all dry surfaces). Margin of victory was small, but Azenis still holds the crown. I'm sure there are other areas where the Yoko and the B'stones prove to be great tires, but apparently in a straight-up shootout the affordable Falken still ownz.

I would like to see a wet test of these tires, though; and throw the Hankook RS2-Z212 in the mix too.

lol, too many race results say otherwise, their test is etxremely limited, a test is only as good as the conditions and limitations that it's conducted under

Wonder why none of the test tires were shaved... Makes that worthless.

they shaved them in last year's test but that's exactly what I was referring too

well, yes, i suppose worthless to competitors who intend to shave. but for local competitors looking for a tire that stays on the car 7 days a week, its still a worthwhile comparison.

that makes me fell better.
my only beef with owning the rt 615s is the fact that they come out of the box at 8/32 tread. falken claims it reduces tread squirm normally found in tires at 10/32, but, since they r near race rubber, the things wear fast enuff that the first 2/32 go before u even reach the road coruse, wtf!

but for 170 bucks for 255/40 18s.....can anyone really complain? i considered advans a048 but they r about 300 a piece.

170 bucks for near illegal grip....yes please!

it's a worthwhile comparison for those cars, with those setups, in those conditions, with those drivers

well yes, but since 'my big fat book of every tire tested on every car with every driver in every possible condition' has yet to be published (I'm workin' on it tho), writeups like this are still very interesting and worthwhile!

I have a set, I don't think the tires grip better at lower tread depth. I think i am at 2 to 3/32nd now

That's probably cause your set is heat cycled to death getting down to that 2/32nd. Most people get better results when they shave to that depth but with just a few heat cycles on them.
