Tire pressure

Hi everybody!

I have Brigeston Potenza 225-45 R18 tires. The recommanded pressure in the door of the car is 32psi. The maximum pressure on the tire it's 51psi and when I picked up the car the pressure was at 25psi. So witch one is the good on????

Thank you

Serge

32psi is what you should run them at. If you go much over 32 the TPMS light will come on (same if you go too much below). The max pressure rating is usually much higher than the recommended pressure.

Also you should check the pressures when the tire is cold, not after you've been driving.

Simon.

I have been running 35 PSI all the way around. I think it gives a little better gas mileage. I just got back from a run to Dubuque on Rt 11 in Wisconsin running mostly 60 mph and got 25 mpg.

Hang ON!!!! You guys are running too low of a pressure. Recommanded tyre pressure is WAY TOO LOW for performance and safety.

As a rule:
Low tyre pressure is for comfort, to burn rubber (wearing out the outside)
Correct tyre pressure
City = at least 36 psi
Highway = at least 40 psi
Racing or serious fanging 42-45 psi

Porsche recommands 45 psi for the Michellin Pilot Sports... it is just road tyre - they are not superslicks!

it is my $.02

I have tell you tires pressure you should check when tires are cold, and set it to 32 PSI. If you over inflate or under inflate you will wear out your tires. When you have the right amount air in the tire profile is what the manufacture recommends. The next time you get a wheel alignment, watch the mechanic, the first thing he does it make sure tire pressure is properly set. This way you get proper tire wear, and car tracks in a straight line. When you have a tire improperly inflated you might pick up a pull in either directions. Also when they balance your tire the tire pressure is set first before they balance. So if you don’t want tire problems or improper tire wear, keep the tires inflated to the proper pressure.

The 32 psi rating for the 8 is so that all of the tire tread will make complete contact with the road. Unless you're auto Xing, you should keep it at 32 psi. If you are auto crossing, inflate the tires to 36-38 psi.(be consistent on all 4 tires!)The tpms on my 8 came on when my tires reached 27 psi. I have inflated them to 38 to see if there was any improved gas mileage, and there was none.
